This pitbull’s life is literally on a timer. Because of his bad state and aggression, the shelter that was keeping him already had a date set to euthanize him. Luckily, these people entered at the right time to get him out of there.
Saving a frightened pittie’s life.
Zelus the pit bull was scheduled to be euthanized the same day that couple Amanda and Tanner rang the bells at the shelter.
“He was just skin and bones,” Amanda described him to The Dodo. “You could tell he had been fighting to eat and live for so long.”
At first glance, he looks like a dog that would bite your fingers off the moment you get them close to him. However, he was just a frightened pooch that forgot the meaning of love and trust.
Amanda and Tanner knew all of that the moment they met this pit bull and so they asked the shelter if they could foster him for a while and see what they could do.
At first, it was hard for the fosters to get the dog to like them.
Amanda and Tanner put their foot down and took the dog home as they did not want the shelter to end his life. They gave the dog a refreshing bath while talking softly to him so that he would feel at ease with their presence.
However, it was not just rainbows and butterflies for the couple as there are also days when Zelus gets a little bit aggressive at them or their other dogs.
Zelus was the couple’s first foster so they put all their efforts into not failing him.
The “skin and bones” before were now back in shape and he is quite adorable.
Amanda had been feeding Zelus with high-protein food paired with goat’s milk, and after a couple of weeks, Zelus had already gained back weight. Not only that, but he was also slowly adjusting to the life he was currently in, especially with a bunch of new doggy friends that he could meet every single day.
It is even adorable how he cuddles with the little puppies like he was their big uncle.
Eventually, Zelus was able to open up to the couple.
“I think, once he found out that he’s gonna get fed, he has someone who cares about him, then he opened up,” Tanner shared.
He has transformed into such a lovable pooch that you would forget the aggression that he had shown before towards humans.
Zelus felt safe around his owners and he became very comfortable being vulnerable around them. Every chance he gets, he would just hop on to his owners’ laps and lets them hug him. His fosters would find him out in the field playing tag with the other dogs and in most tired afternoons, they would hear his loud snores.
This couple would never let Zelus feel the same as before ever again.
Zelus’ adoption became official and couple Amanda and Tanner were the ones who get to keep him forever. Thanks to them both, they were able to save an innocent life like Zelus. Now, he continues to be the great cuddlebug that they both love.
