It was just another ordinary day for thirteen-year-old Joseph Diglio from Lake Mary, Florida.
Lounging on his couch, engrossed in a TV show, the last thing he expected was an unexpected guest of the furry kind.
But as his dog’s barks grew frantic and the unmistakable sound of scratching echoed through the house, Joseph’s curiosity got the better of him.
Peering through the window, he was met with a sight that would be etched in his memory forever.
A bear was trying to make its way into his home.
But this wasn’t just any bear.
This was Tripod, the three-legged bear that had become somewhat of a local celebrity in Lake Mary.
Named for his distinctive three-legged gait, Tripod was well-known around town, and his name, as Joseph amusingly pointed out, was probably inspired by the three-legged stand used for cameras.
With a mix of trepidation and amusement, Joseph watched as Tripod, after some wandering, decided to quench his thirst.
And what better way to do that than with the family’s stash of White Claws?
The irony wasn’t lost on Joseph, who found it hilarious that the bear chose to indulge on Labor Day.
It was as if Tripod was joining in on the holiday festivities.
As Tripod rummaged through the fridge, Joseph couldn’t help but marvel at the sheer audacity of the bear.
“He’s trying to eat the food here,” he exclaimed, a mix of disbelief and amusement evident in his voice.
It was a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle, and Joseph was right in the thick of it.
But every party has to end sometime. After having his fill (and possibly getting a little buzzed), Tripod decided it was time to make his exit.
However, he left behind a memento of his visit: a broken screen door.
Joseph, ever the observant one, pointed out the damage, trying not to move too much in case Tripod was still nearby.
While most would consider a bear breaking into their home a terrifying ordeal, Joseph’s mother, Josari, had a different take on the situation.
To her, the break-in was more of an honor than a nuisance.
After all, it was Tripod, the local celebrity, who had graced them with his presence.
Josari’s fondness for Tripod was evident.
“He’s been visiting houses in this community, looking for food for a while,” she shared.
Despite his occasional trespasses, the community had a soft spot for the bear.
He wasn’t aggressive and would usually retreat when approached. In Josari’s words, “He’s not harmful at all.”
The unexpected incident brought excitement and wonder to an otherwise regular day.
It was a reminder of the surprises nature can throw our way, and how sometimes, they come in the form of a three-legged bear with a penchant for White Claws.
As the day drew to a close and the excitement subsided, one thing was clear: Tripod’s little adventure had given the Diglio family a story they’d be recounting for years.
And while the White Claws might be gone, the memories of that day would remain, as vivid and entertaining as ever.
