Whether it’s solo travel, a trip with your best friend, or with your family, you’ll never know when you will face unforeseen circumstances. They were bringing their camping and fishing gear as they were ready to have a fun-filled adventure.

These two guys were on their aluminum boat when they bumped into something unexpected.

As they passed by a cave along the Juan de Fuca Trail, they saw the tan legs of an animal inside the cave. Zach even recalled that exact moment during an interview with CTV.

“Glancing in the caves as we were going by I saw tan legs kinda walk out…”

They wondered what animal was it and they found out that it was a dog that was in a poor condition. It was starving and shivering. At that time, they were unaware that the dog was suffering in that place for three months already.

They felt that they had to save that poor dog from that situation.

According to Matty, they were even trying to beat an upcoming storm at that moment. Despite their situation, they still chose the right thing to do and that is to take the dog with them. They finally ended the canine’s suffering in that dark and cold place.

“We were trying to beat an upcoming storm, but we made the decision to save the dog,” he tells GNN.

Matty unhesitatingly jumped into the ocean to get the dog. He did everything so he could take her with him safely.

He said:

“All I had was a lease and some neoprene armor on and I was like ahhh I don’t know how this is going to go.”

“I came in with the boat and I grabbed her before she sunk to the bottom because she was so weak,” he added.

It was a near-death experience for the dog and it was not easy for Zach and Matty to save her, but they still did without hesitation.

As they had successfully brought her on their boat, they made sure to keep her warm by snuggling her in a bag. Though they did not have everything she needs during that time, the two guys still ensured that she was safe.

The good news…

They were able to bring her back on dry land safely. CTV aired a clip of their story and that eventually brought Zach and Matty some good news. A friend of the dog’s owners recognized her and that person immediately reached out to her owners to inform them about the good news.

The two guys found out that the dog that they took with them got lost 3 months ago. It was May when her owners went for a hike along the Juan de Fuca trail as they celebrated their honeymoon. Stella was with them at that time. Unfortunately, she accidentally got separated from them. The owners tried to look for her as much as they could but they did not find her which made them hopeless and assume the worst.

Unexpectedly, because of Zach and Matty, Stella found her way home. She is now back in her owners’ arms.
