All pet owners know that one of the hardest things that they will have to eventually face is saying goodbye to their beloved pets.
It’s not an easy separation, especially if you take into account the number of years that these animals spend in some families. In the end, it can be as hard as losing a family member.
Our story today will make you tear up as it’s one of those that makes you believe in the goodness that we all have inside. Meet Tonya Andrews, a math teacher at Joshua High School, Texas. Five years ago, Andrews lost her favorite pet of 16 years, her cat, Blondie.
Andrews explained to The Huffington Post how Blondie died in her arms on her way to vet hospital as soon as she had realized that there was something wrong with her.
As you can understand, losing her long-time companion was very difficult for Andrews, but witnessing her death must have been even more distressing.
“I cried pretty much every period that next day at school,” she told the newspaper.
During one of her classes, out of the blue, she started crying. Of course, seeing their teacher suddenly burst into tears, alarmed her students, who rushed to her aid, asking her what was wrong.
“I’m sorry, my 16-year-old cat named Blondie died yesterday,” explained Andrews.
Then, four of her students, Hanhart along with Ashlei Mahan, Makayla Comer, and Sheridan Swindell, moved by their teacher’s story, decided to do something to cheer her up!
The girls immediately got down to business, Comer was supposed to buy some flowers, Swindell decided to bring some cupcakes.
But, something was missing. After thinking about it a bit more, they came up with a really wonderful idea…Kittens!
What better way to help her get over her grief than gifting her with another animal to take care of.
“So my mom looked online to find kittens in Fort Worth that needed a home,” Hanhart recalled.
The plan was a success! As you can see in the video, the four students not only managed to surprise Andrews but they made her shed tears of joy. The woman was left speechless at the sight of the two adorable kittens.
“Are they mine?” asked Andrews full of emotion as she reached out to take in her hands her new “babies”. Soon after, Andrews named her new kittens, Missy and Girlie.
The video that quickly became viral, accumulated many praising and congratulatory comments.
One woman wrote, “I’m a teacher, and I would absolutely be FLOORED if my students did this for me. This video is so sweet,” while another said, “The thoughtfulness and generosity of those kids, to me, is just so heartwarming.”
Such a wonderful story and such an amazing gesture by these high school students towards their teacher. Let’s wish Andrews and her new companions many happy years together!
