Tonya Andrews is a popular math teacher at Joshua High School in Texas. Mrs. Andrews was usually a very happy-go-lucky teacher. And so, when Mrs. Andrews began crying in her class one day, her students were shocked and worried.
Mrs. Andrews explained that her 16-year-old cat, Blondie, had died in her arms the night before. Mrs. Andrews had thought about skipping work, but her husband said teaching might help distract her. The students were all very sympathetic, and they wanted to do something to help their grieving teacher.
Three students named Rachel, Ashlei, and Sheridan came up with a plan. They knew the perfect way to help Mrs. Andrews feel better.
When Mrs. Andrews arrived in her algebra classroom the next day, she was surprised to see that Rachel, Ashley, and Sheridan were all missing. But then, the door opened, and Ashlei walked in carrying roses.
After that, Sheridan walked in carrying cupcakes. Mrs. Andrews was already in tears—she was so moved by her students’ kindness. Little did she know, the best was yet to come!
Rachel walked in last. She carried two tiny kittens.
Rachel told ABC News that she and her mom came up with the idea:
“My mom looked online to find kittens in Fort Worth that needed a home,” she said.
Rachel and her mom found two kittens named Missy and Girlie. They were perfect!
When Mrs. Andrews saw the kittens, she started crying tears of joy. “Are they mine?” she asked as she cuddled the kitten. The girls nodded, also in tears. Mrs. Andrews was so happy, she couldn’t even speak.
Rachel posted a video of this incredible moment to her Twitter page. It quickly went viral, receiving more than two million views. Everyone was moved by these students’ act of kindness.

Mrs. Andrews will always miss her Blondie, but she’s so happy she has two kittens to shower with love.
“My sweet, sweet Blondie will never be forgotten, but now I have Missy and Girlie to make me smile more often these days,” Mrs. Andrews wrote on Facebook.
