The condition that Buster and Tilana were found in could bring tears to your eye.
Saying they were emaciated is an understatement.
The dogs were skin-and-bones, and you could literally see flies flying all around the heads in a video of their rescue.
The dogs were scared and had been trapped in a space without food or water.
When rescuers approached the two pitbulls, they hid under a table.
Eventually, they came out when the rescuers from Sidewalk Specials put out some food. That’s when the rescuers learned that the two dogs were friendly.
These two dogs were so desperate that they trusted complete strangers.
Once the dogs were taken in, it was decided that they should be split up and sent to live in different foster homes.
Tilana was given a home with lots of love and care.
“She’s living with kids and absolutely thriving,” one of her rescuers said. “They were constantly loving her, petting her, feeding her. It was absolutely a match made in Heaven.”
She, unfortunately, had to have her leg amputated, but it seems as if she barely missed it.
Tilana would run and jump and play just as if she had four legs.
Buster took about six months to find a home. After a six-hour-long introduction period with the home’s existing pets, Buster had finally found his people.
Buster couldn’t be happier living with his two sisters who love him very much. Still, he always had a special place in his heart for Tilana.
That’s why he and Tilana’s owner wanted to make sure that they saw each other on the one-year anniversary of their rescue.
Buster even wore a bow tie for the occasion.
“I was worried after their time apart, ‘Is it going to be a happy reunion?'” Buster’s dad said. “The second they saw each other, their tales were tagging.”
First, they sniffed each other out and were happy to be reunited again.
“They just chilled like they’ve never been apart. It was such a lovely celebration. It was just beautiful seeing those dogs so happy and relaxed.”
A whole lot had changed since they last saw each other since they survived their circumstances.
“It’s just so different from when they left each other which was pain and fear and ribs sticking out. They can now meet whole and healthy and with beautiful personalities. With a pile of humans determined to see them right, one year is such a change.”
Buster and Tilana’s story was posted on the internet by their rescue group.
That story ended up getting picked up by The Dodo where it was viewed on their YouTube page more than 500,000 times.
“Poor pups… they are nothing but skin & bones. Someone was starving them. Heartbreaking. So glad they have loving forever homes. A great reunion. They are living their best lives,” wrote one YouTube commenter.
