Pistachio was born on the streets of Los Angeles. The little kitten didn’t have any family or anyone to take care of her, but she was determined to survive.

Pistachio started wandering from house to house, meowing as loud as she could. But despite her best efforts, no one took her in.

When Pistachio was three months old, an animal rescue group called Alley Cat Rescue found her.

Desiree, a volunteer with Alley Cat Rescue, was working on a trap-neuter-release job in Pistachio’s neighborhood. A neighborhood resident walked up to Desiree and her fellow volunteers and told them about Pistachio. Desiree quickly decided that she wanted to rescue this tiny stray kitten.

“A resident told us about this skinny kitten that was looking for a home. Sure enough, we found her on a doorstep being shooed away,” said Desiree.

Desiree found Pistachio standing on a porch, meowing her lungs out. The kitten’s voice was raspy from all her meowing, but she still purred when she saw Desiree walking up to her.

Desiree took Pistachio home with her and cleaned her up. The poor kitten was covered in dirt and fleas, and she had an upper respiratory infection. But even though she wasn’t feeling well, she was still as sweet as could be.

After reaching out to Alley Cat Rescue’s network, Desiree was able to find a foster home for Pistachio. Little Pistachio was so happy to finally have a roof over her head and foster parents who loved her!

After a week in the foster home, Pistachio’s upper respiratory infection cleared up. She also began gaining weight.

Once Pistachio started feeling better, her foster parents introduced her to their other cats. Pistachio absolutely loved hanging out with the other kitties. She was particularly fond of Butterbean, a kitten who was a couple of months younger than her. She acted like she was his big sister!

“Pistachio Update! She is adjusting well in her new home and winning over the older cats!” Pistachio’s foster dad wrote on Facebook.

Pistachio is still searching for her forever home—after everything she’s been through, this kitten deserves a great home. Even though she had such a rough start to life, she never lost her sweet personality, and she still trusts people.

“Open your arms and she settles in for a cuddle! She is quick to purr and show how happy she is!” Desiree says.
