Shoplifting is a crime that doesn’t go without punishment – unless, that is, you’re a dog.
When a North Carolina Dollar General store first came across their canine shoplifter, they weren’t quite sure who to call.
At first, they had no idea where the dog was coming from or whether he had an owner; but the more he frequented their store, the more they began to realize that he probably didn’t have a home.
For some reason, the dog was drawn to one particular item in the shop: a purple unicorn toy.
Each time he came into the shop, he made a beeline straight for his favorite toy – much to the store workers’ amusement.
While he provided some brilliant entertainment, the shopkeeper eventually decided that the stray dog needed a place to call home, so he got in touch with the local animal rescue department.
“The store called and said they had a stray dog in the parking lot that kept coming into the store,” Joe Newburn, head of the County Animal Services Department, told McClatchy News. “He’d walk in, go to that unicorn and try to get it. He did it four or five times before they locked the door and called us to come get him. Maybe he had a stuffed animal like that in his original home. I don’t know, but he wanted that purple unicorn bad.”
The canine thief was taken to Duplin County Animal Services, where staff decided to name him Sisu (a nod to a character in Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon).
Instead of being punished for his crime, Sisu was in for a treat! Samantha Lane was the animal control officer who had picked Sisu up, and after she heard about his obsession with the $10 toy unicorn, she decided to purchase it for him.
Of course, Sisu was overjoyed to be reunited with his favorite toy – and since it was probably likely to be covered in dog slobber by this point, we’re sure that the store was only too happy to make a sale out of it.
“He kept going to that one particular unicorn,” Lane told Inside Edition. “He likes to sleep on it, lay on it… He just loves his unicorn.”
To celebrate the arrival of Sisu the unicorn thief into their shelter, Duplin County Animal Services shared some adorable pictures of the pup and his unicorn onto their Facebook page, along with the caption:
“This is what happens when you break into the Dollar General consistently to steal the purple unicorn… but then get Animal Control called to lock you up for your B&E and larceny.”

The post was immediately flooded with positive comments from people all over the world, and it wasn’t long before the adorable pup had adoption offers coming in from people who were desperate to take home him and his unicorn.
Amazingly, since Siso’s sweet pictures were shared on the 26th of March, he has already been matched with some new adoptive parents who are eager to take him home.
Proof that unicorns aren’t the only thing this dog steals – he also steals hearts too! Check out a sweet video about Sisu below.
