Banu Cengiz is a pharmacist – and while her job might not be related to animals in the slightest, the Turkish dog-lover appears to be a magnet for the stray dogs living out on the streets.
Like many animal-lovers, Banu’s heart broke at the thought of tall dogs who don’t have a home.
She tried her best to help them; leaving out food, water, and comfortable bedding in a cozy little oasis outside her pharmacy. And a few years ago, Banu even adopted a stray dog for herself!
Her kind actions have earned Banu a reputation of being the animal-lover that she is. When it comes to animals, nothing is too much of an ask.
One day, when she was at work, Banu noticed one of the stray dogs outside the pharmacy acting strangely.
Instead of lying on the beds or making the most of the free food and water that was available, the dog was looking in through the doors expectantly.
“She was looking at me,” Banu told The Dodo. “I said, ‘Baby, is there a problem?’”
Banu welcomed the dog inside, where she quickly saw that the poor thing was bleeding from a small cut on her paw. She had limped all the way to the pharmacy to see Banu. It was like she knew that Banu would be able to help her!
The kind woman took to Twitter to share a video showing the moment she helped the stray dog:
Senin o kimden yardım isteyeceğini bilen aklına,güzelliğine, usluluğuna kurban olurum.patisi kanamış,eczaneye girip patisini uzattı,yarasını gösterdi bana. pic.twitter.com/MUYE9yFM6j

The video shows the dog obediently holding out her paw as Banu treats it. When the job is all done, the dog lays down onto the floor as if she’s already feeling much better.
“When I was done, she laid down as if to thank me,” Banu said. “She was saying, ‘I trust you.’”
A pharmacy was the right place to come to! Banu was able to clean the pup’s wounds with an antiseptic before giving her some antibiotics- so she’s now well on the road to recovery.
Since being posted, the video has racked up an impressive 2.3 million views, but Banu is humble about her work.
“I do it because they feel,” she said. “We need to help those who need it. People should teach their children to love and respect animals and nature. Then we can all live together in a beautiful world.”
Banu made a cozy bed under her desk for the dog to recover, and within no time at all she was feeling much better.
Many people wanted to know how the dog was doing, and whether Banu would consider giving her home.
But while Banu can’t take her home for herself, she continues to offer food and beds to all of the stray dogs in the area, as well as helping them find homes where possible.
“Unfortunately, I couldn’t take her home,” Cengiz said. “I’ve been dealing with street animals for years. I feed them and heal them, and help them find homes when I can.”
We’re so thankful for people like Banu who take the time to help all the dogs in need!
