He was so incredibly loyal.

Dogs are truly some of the most loyal animals in the world, and we would even go as far as to put their loyalty above a human’s. They’re selfless in ways that we could never even dream of being and the stories of selfless dogs that we come across on a daily basis help to reinforce this.

So when we came across a story about a dog who had sat and waited with his injured friend for hours – despite not knowing when or even if help would arrive – our hearts instantly melted.

Thankfully, both dogs were spotted by a Good Samaritan and taken to a nearby rescue shelter, where they were both eventually rehomed. But before all of that, there was one more surprise in store!

Aa a German Shepherd lay injured at the side of a road, there was no telling whether anyone would stop to rescue her. Although she was injured, she wasn’t alone- as sitting dutifully by her side was a small red dog.

The dog sat and waited with his friend until help eventually stopped. He didn’t think once about leaving her side.

Help came from a man who pulled over as soon as he saw the two dogs. The German Shepherd was in a bad way, so the man didn’t want to risk doing anything that could potentially cause her more injuries. He quickly called Dream Fetchers Project Rescue, who rushed out to rescue the two dogs.

As Dream Fetchers arrived on the scene, they came across the little red dog waiting in the exact same place as he had been in before, right next to his friend.

They didn’t know if the German Shepherd would survive, but they knew that time was of the essence, so they quickly loaded her into their vehicle.

Naturally, the little red dog followed his friend into the car.

The team of rescuers drove the German Shepherd to the vets so that she could get emergency treatment. On the way there, in a touching moment, the injured dog’s friend rested his head protectively on her tummy. It was almost as if he was trying his best to reassure her that it was all going to be okay.

As soon as the two dogs arrived at the vets, there was a big surprise in store! It turned out that the German Shepherd was carrying eleven puppies, and thankfully, although their mama was injured, the pups seemed to be in perfect health.

The red dog now named Murphy stayed by his friend’s side until she began to get better. His good deed was done, and when he started to back off and give his friend space, rescue workers knew that it was the perfect time to get him rehomed.

Meanwhile, the German Shepherd now named Marley gave birth to eleven healthy puppies, and was the most caring mom, despite being heavily bandaged.

The sweet dog’s injuries were so serious that it took her two years to recover completely, but she was helped along the way by her new adoptive mom and dad. Her puppies were also all rehomed, so it was a happy ending for all!
