Parents will do everything they can to protect their children. This is true of both animals and people.
And the story of a mother and son named Oreo and Cookie Monster is the perfect example of this.
Oreo is a pit bull-Daschund mix.
She was abandoned and was living on the streets just beside a freeway. A local man watched over her and always made sure she was fed.
But after seeing that Oreo has a little puppy with her, the streets were not a safe space any longer.
Hope for Paws was called in to rescue Oreo and her puppy. In a video posted by the organization, they carefully approached the neighborhood so they won’t scare the dogs.
The streets and the freeway is separated only by a wire fence. The small dogs can fit through and may end up getting hit by speeding vehicles.
But the puppy had other plans. He darted towards the wire fence which worried the rescuers. To prevent him from endangering his life, the rescuers ran towards the puppy and threw a net over it. The puppy quickly yelps in terror.
Hearing this, Oreo was quick to charge at the rescuers.
The team was only there to make sure they were safe, but that was something Oreo cannot understand.
The only thing she could understand was her baby’s pained cries and that he was in danger.
The humans were big, however, and her Daschund frame won’t stand a chance.
So she hid behind the grass and watched helplessly as her puppy cried.
This is when the rescuers asked for help from those who have been looking after Oreo. These people are familiar to her and there’s a good chance that she’ll listen to them.
The man called out to Oreo. She immediately approached the man but also cautiously.
And when she finally calmed down, the rescuers presented the puppy to her. They showed the anxious mom that the puppy was not hurt in any way and that they were there to take them both to a safer place.
After a few kisses to her puppy, Oreo sat on the rescuer’s lap as they drove away from the streets they once called home.
They underwent their routine medical examinations and were then introduced to their first shelter friend Jordan. And while they enjoyed the warm welcome, the two dogs eventually moved into their forever home.
Oreo, now named Lady, spends her time napping, lounging, or helping her mom out with her work.
Meanwhile, Cookie Monster, now named Reptar, is too busy being a puppy.
Both of them are now enjoying life with a big backyard to play in and warm beds to rest their paws.
Lady also flaunts her doggie fashionista self with fleece wears and dog clothes.
Lady and Reptar have come so far in their lives and have found such a wonderful place to call home.
