If we woke up and discovered that one of our most prized possessions had disappeared, we’d probably suspect that it was lost or stolen. The typical thief would steal an expensive item to sell for profit, so that’s pretty much the only motive that would be running through our heads if we had a suspected robbery on our hands.

So when Zackrydz Rodzi woke up in his home in Malaysia and found that his phone had vanished from the spot he’d left it in the night before, he began to suspect that somebody had stolen it. And it turned out that the man’s suspicions were right- though the thief wasn’t your usual suspect.
“I thought it was some kind of robbery,” Rodzi reflected to The Dodo. “It was bizarre.”

Adamant that he wasn’t about to give up, Rodzi began to search high and low for his phone on the off chance that he had simply misplaced it, or that the thief had mistakenly dropped it. It wasn’t long until he found some evidence.

“I asked my brother to give a call [to my phone] while I was searching for it in my backyard,” Rodzi said. “I heard the ringtone near the jungle behind my house.”

Rodzi rushed into the jungle, and as he followed the sound of the ringtone, he soon came across his phone again. It had been dropped in the mud and was damaged internally, but miraculously, Rodzi was still able to turn it on. Tapping onto his gallery, the man began to search for clues. What he wasn’t expecting was to see a picture of the culprit flash up in front of his very eyes.
“I opened the photo gallery, and boom. Everything was there,” Rodzi said. “Photos. Selfies.”

There were a number of new photos in the man’s camera roll, and staring back at Rodzi through a number of selfies was a very cheeky monkey.

Not content with just stealing the phone, the monkey had decided to document his whole morning in the jungle, complete with selfies, shots of the trees from his perspective, and many blurry and unclear snaps. The more that Rodzi scrolled through, the more that his anger about his damaged phone turned into joy.
“I went from mad, to having tears of joy. I think it’s hilarious,” Rodzi said

The phone’s internal damage was evident in many of the monkey’s snaps- but some of them were actually pretty good. It makes us think that this might not have been the first phone he’s ever stolen!
“I believe that the monkey has some serious skills that need to be sharpened. It’s great,” Rodzi said. “And for a first-timer as well!”

Rodzi shared pictures from his camera roll to show the sheer amount of pictures that the monkey snapped, and its truly a moment that will stay with him for life.
“It’s not something that you see every day,” Rodzi said.

Sadly, the man’s phone seemed to be damaged beyond repair, and Rodzi is now faced with the prospect of buying a new one. But after seeing all of the silly selfies, he simply can’t be mad at the monkey.
“It’s fine. I can’t blame him,” Rodzi said. “I just never would have thought it was a monkey who stole my phone.”
