Steve Irwin was a TV host and animal lover who was most famous for his Crocodile Hunter show. Irwin also ran a zoo in his native Australia. Everybody loved that Irwin was so passionate about the animals he worked with.
Tragically, Steve Irwin passed away in 2006 after being pierced by a stingray’s barb. Irwin left behind his wife Teri and two young kids, Bindi and Robert. Teri, Bindi, and Robert were all animal lovers too, and they vowed to keep Steve’s legacy alive.
Thirteen years later, Teri, Bindi, and Robert are all still very involved in the animal conservation world.
Teri, who’s a naturalist, has worked on numerous research projects in Australia. She also helps run Steve Irwin’s zoo, the Australia Zoo. Twenty-year-old Bindi also works at the zoo, and she’s also a television presenter.
Robert is 15, and he has started working more and more at the Australia Zoo.
Like his father, Robert loves spending time with the animals at the zoo. He often shares photos of his encounters with the animals on his Instagram page.
In June 2019, Robert shared two photos of him and his father feeding the same crocodile 15 years apart.
“Dad and me feeding Murray… same place, same croc – two photos 15 years apart,” Robert wrote in the caption of the photo.
The photo quickly went viral—everyone was amazed by how similar Steve and Robert looked. They also loved seeing that Robert was still working in his father’s zoo.
“Can’t begin to imagine how proud he would be Robert,” one commenter wrote.
Another commenter said that Robert clearly had lots of style, just like his father!
“So special. And so much style mate!”
Robert’s mom also shared the image on her Twitter page. She said her husband’s mission was in good hands.

In an interview with Ladbible, Teri, Bindi, and Robert talked about their conservation work and how they’re following their dad’s mission. Robert said that wildlife conversation is more important now than ever before.
“I think now, even more so than when Dad was around, our wildlife is really being depleted as such an incredibly rapid rate,” said Robert. “I think it’s so important that we can learn to love and respect all animals and natural places, not just the cute and cuddly creatures.”
Teri agreed with her son and gave some tips for people who are looking to ways to help with wildlife conservation:
“You don’t have to dedicate your entire life to make really positive change, so if you’ve got time, you can do little things – recycle, turn off the lights when you leave a room, turn off the tap when you brush your teeth, that sort of thing really helps.”
The Irwins are a dedicated family who are doing an incredible job at helping animals in Australia and around the world. If you’d like to see more of Robert’s animal photos, check out his Instagram page.
