In 2016, a sweet senior cat known as Raggedy Ann—or just Ann for short—was rescued from a terrible hoarding situation in Arizona.

Forty-one cats and two dogs were found in a double-wide mobile home, including 14-year-old Ann. Poor Ann was the sickest of all the cats—she weighed just 3.5 pounds, and she was so skinny all her ribs were visible. Her teeth were also deeply infected, and her fur was severely matted.

The rescue group Saving One Life took Ann in, but they weren’t sure if she was going to make it. But Ann refused to give up on life—the cat was determined to get better. Saving One Life found Ann the perfect foster home, and the cat’s new foster mom started looking after her.

“She is the definition of a fighter,” Brianne, Ann’s foster mom, told iHeartCats. “She never gave up, so neither did we. We knew taking her in it was a long shot, but we had to show her love… even if just for a short period.”

Slowly but surely, Ann began gaining weight. Soon, she had gained two pounds. Ann’s veterinarian also shaved off all her matted fur, which helped her feel more comfortable. Ann was getting better, and her foster mom couldn’t have been happier!

After thirteen days in foster care, Ann weighed five pounds. Her foster family was so happy, and they celebrated by taking a photo of Ann with a five-dollar bill.

On Ann’s one-month foster care anniversary, her foster mom Brianne shared a sweet photo showing her amazing progress.

Soon after that, Brianne’s family, who were in the military, had to move from Arizona to California, and so they sadly said goodbye to Ann. But they left her in good hands with her new foster mom, Megan. Megan gave Ann round-the-clock care, and she made sure the cat continued to get better and better.

As Ann started feeling better, she also got more social. She loved playing with toys, and she’d often bring Megan toy mice as presents. She also loved staring out the window and watching the birds fly by. She was also a big fan of napping in front of the TV!

After about four months in foster care, Ann weighed a healthy ten pounds! The cat looked so different from when she first arrived.

“I am crying happy tears right now. This sweet girl fought and proved us all wrong. When I took her in I assumed it most likely, because of her condition, would be for hospice care. She never gave up, so neither did we,” Ann’s foster mom wrote on Facebook.
