It’s not easy to be separated from a loved one for a long, long time. Yet this is what happens to families with a military who gets deployed overseas.
So many important occasions will be missed – birthdays, anniversaries, simple celebrations, and even everyday interactions.
This is not only a difficult situation for humans.
It’s hard on pets, too.
Dogs can’t count the days when their beloved human will return. They don’t have the slightest idea; all they do is just wait for that time to come.
And when it does, it’s emotional.
You may have seen plenty of these reunions shared on social media, and it just melts your heart each time.
But something that is quite touching is when a military member gets reunited with his or her dog who has been waiting for one’s arrival.
We just can’t fathom how lonely they become when they don’t get to see their master or hear their voice.
In the video, you can see a lady in uniform. She has been away for army training for eight long months.
Now, she’s happy to be home and cannot wait to hug and play with her four-legged best friend.
But will he remember her?
It was never easy for Janna Berger to be away from her family and especially from her special buddy named Murphy while she dedicated several months in training.
To make sure that her beloved pooch was well-taken care of, she entrusted Murphy to her parents and they provided all the pet needed.
Berger shared to The Dodo:
“I thought about Murphy every day. Being away from him was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.”
Murphy terribly missed her presence too. After Berger left for training, she learned that her pooch would wait for her outside her bedroom door every single day.
He was hoping that his master would come home.
Berger and Murphy finally reunite.
They want to record this moment that the two have been waiting for. Berger is outside their home when she’s waiting for her pet to come out.
She calls his name, and the pooch appears. However, his reaction is not what most may expect.
As the dog gets close to her, he stops and runs in the other direction. We can say that Murphy doesn’t recognize her.
Berger and her dad try again.
The dog comes running back and goes close to its owner. She removes her hat this time so that he can better see her face.
The pooch starts barking and feeling somewhat puzzled seeing the person in front of him.
As soon as Murphy recognizes her…
Murphy draws himself closer to Berger as she tells him, “It’s me!” He goes on her lap, and she gives him a tight hug.
The dog keeps checking on her face, sniffing her, maybe he’s in disbelief that someone he has been waiting for so long is already here.
When he realizes it’s really her, the dog cannot contain his happiness. She’s home and he can feel her warm embrace again.
Murphy’s reaction is priceless.
The dog goes wild in excitement after realizing that his mommy, the most important person in his life, is back.
Berger explained,
“I had no idea Murphy would react the way he did! When he didn’t recognize me at first, I was so heartbroken. The happiest moment of my life was when he finally figured out it was me.”
Now that she’s done with her training, Berger plans to share a new home with her pet.
Murphy has been with her for over three years.
Military homecoming videos can really leave you teary-eyed.
Even if it’s not somebody related to you, but you just know how it feels to be away from loved ones and get reunited again.
Being separated for several months is unthinkable. It makes everyone lonely, and seeing each other is the only cure for it.
