Did you know that “pit bull” is not a specific kind of breed?

The term pit bull commonly refers to three official dog breeds: Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, and American Pit Bull Terrier.

Many dogs called pit bulls are a combination of mixed breed dogs of unknown pedigree and dogs that look like pit bulls, but are actually another type of dog.

Whatever specific breed they actually are, dogs classified as pit bulls often get a bad rap.

Many people think they are aggressive and dangerous. However, pit bull experts say that pit bulls are not inherently aggressive, but many pit bull owners encourage their dogs to become hostile and destructive for fighting and protection.

This is the reason why many pit bull puppies are sometimes neglected or discarded. Fortunately, pit bulls Noah and Lincoln found owners who care and love them for who they are.

“I had no intention of getting a dog. We were in the military, we just didn’t have the option to do that,” pit bull owner and solider Vivian told GeoBeats Animals.

However, her husband Palace accompanied a friend to pick up a puppy from a breeder. He noticed a little puppy on the side.

When he asked the breeder why the puppy was set aside, the breeder said it was the runt of the litter and he discard him soon.

He called Vivian and told her they were going to get a puppy. She was initially confused because they had no plans to get a dog.

“But when you saw his little face, it’s like, ‘okay you’re here to stay with us forever’,” Vivian said.

She considers him her “soul dog,” like the dog version of a soulmate.

Vivian said that dog Noah is very chill and has an old soul, almost like an older gentleman. “He’s our old wise guy,” she shared.

In 2017, Vivian and her husband wanted to find a brother for Noah.

They ran into Lincoln’s profile, and the family who had him said that his personality was too wild and they couldn’t contain him.

This is the reason they were trying to get rid of him.

When Noah and Lincoln first met, Noah didn’t want to have anything to do with Lincoln because Noah prefers humans over dogs.

Fortunately, the two dogs got along.

After a while, Vivian and her husband were separated for three years because of work. He was in South Carolina and Vivian was stationed in New Jersey. Noah was with her and they bonded even more during this time together.

When she injured her knee and back, there were some days when Vivian couldn’t get out of bed.

Noah was her support system and the one who kept her going.

She describes the two dogs together as Lincoln is “the storm” and Noah is “the calm.”

According to Vivian, Lincoln is 90 pounds but acts as if he’s 15 pounds. He also makes her laugh with his crazy antics.

Lincoln kept Palace occupied and entertained when he retired from the military and was unsure of what to do next.

Vivian’s mom had the same misconceptions most people have about pit bulls. When she heard that Vivian got a pit bull, she didn’t want to have anything to do with Noah.

However, the first time she met Noah, “All he did was run up to her and shake his tail, and just greet her with his love and caring eyes,” Vivian shared.

After this initial meeting, Vivian’s parents came over to visit more often and take Noah and Lincoln on walks.

Vivian and Palace are grateful for Noah and Lincoln coming into their lives. The dogs have brought so much joy to their lives, and Vivian hopes Noah knows how much they love him and his brother.
