Who doesn’t get excited at the sight of snow? There is something mesmerizing upon looking at this beautiful white blanket that covers everything around us.
Some psychologists believe that we tend to love and anticipate snowy days because snow can trigger positive feelings associated with happy events and memories or periods of time such as Christmas!
However, it’s not only humans that have this kind of reaction where snow is connected.
The snow is something quite “novel” to some animals and the sight of it stimulates them, making them curious about what they are seeing around them, they want to explore and play with it.
According to the animal behaviorist Con Slobodchikoff from Northern Arizona University, “It feels good on the skin or the fur. When you have that combination, and couple it with animals’ love for play, animals just really enjoy making up a game in this wonderful background.”
Today’s story is about a very curious dog who wants to play in the snow, exactly like the people around her.
Meet Layla, one of the cutest dogs you have ever seen. Layla and her “mom” went out to enjoy a day on a snowy hill, they are having a great time, playing with their frisbee until Layla notices some people sledding down the hill.
The dog due to her curious nature is intrigued by what she sees, so she decides to take her frisbee and imitate the humans’ “game”.
And as you see, she’s rocking it and having a great time sledding down the hill on her frisbee!
The video was posted on YouTube and it soon became viral, with many people praising Layla for her intelligence and resourcefulness.
One wrote, “Dogs are so much smarter than most people give them credit for. My dog understands everything I say to him. It’s crazy”, while another said, “‘That looks brilliant! I’m having a go!’ How excited she is!”.
Layla is just one of the many dogs out there that are having a blast, playing in the snow. Two years ago, another video emerged where another dog much like Layla, tried to sled down a snowy hill.
The only difference that time was that Secret, an Australian Shepherd, had her own sled!
As you can see in the photos, that dog would sled down the hill like a pro and then drag her sled on the top again to have another go. It’s incredible how smart and talented are some animals once given the opportunity!
“As children and young animals are growing up, the play seems to have a role in giving them an opportunity to practice and explore behaviors,” says Virga, a veterinary behaviorist.
It’s really refreshing and enjoyable to see our furry friends having the time of their lives, exploring the environment around them, much like we used to do when we were younger. This kind of animal behavior gives us just a small glimpse into the dog’s psyche and makes us wonder what else they are capable of.
