If you’ve watched Ice Age, then you must be a sloth fan! Who doesn’t love Sid with his funny quotes and amazing character?

In the movie, Sid’s circle of friends includes mammoths, tigers, and more. In real life, though, sloths don’t have such large-sized friends.

In fact, their best friends are moths. Not quite what you expected, right?

But, although sloths don’t like to be touched and they consider even the most affectionate hug as threatening, they can sometimes develop unlikely friendships with humans and other animals that they would normally avoid.

One of the animals that are threatening to sloths is dogs.

Another threat to the sloth population in Central and South America is powerlines. And things are not very different in Venezuela, where celebrity sloth Chuwie lives.

About two years ago, a badly injured sloth was found in Caracas. He had been electrocuted by a powerline, and his injuries seemed difficult to heal.

The people that found him were determined to save the wild animal and they wouldn’t simply give up.

So, they enlisted the help of vets and experts from all over South America to make sure their new friend, Chuwie, would make it.

Indeed, against all odds, the sloth did survive, although he lost all of the claws in his hind legs and left hand. The vets did an excellent job and Chuwie took back his life.

However, nothing was the same as before for him. In fact, even though he lost his claws, and this makes his life harder in some ways, he was lucky enough to meet a new best friend.

Seven, the pet dog of the family that saved the sloth, felt connected to Chuwie from day one. But Chuwie’s rescuer knew that the sloth would feel threatened if the dog tried to approach him.

So, she gave him time to recover before bringing Seven over.

Once Chuwie had fully recovered, Seven started approaching him. Little by little, the sloth got used to Seven being close to him, and he even started to like her.

The two unlikely friends have since been spending time together, and Chuwie even enjoys Seven’s company.

The dog even tries to find common interests with the sloth, like eating leaves. And they’re the cutest when they are together. They have built a strong bond over time and it shows.

“Seven’s persistence paid off in a big way,” Seven’s owners say. “Chuwie is now more relaxed and happy with Seven by his side. Seven loves every minute.”

The two animals together are an adorable sight.

Chuwie also has an Instagram account, since he is now the ambassador of Chuwie Foundation, Rescue and Rehab Center for Sloths, which Seven’s family founded.
