Have you ever been so exhausted from a long day at work that you could barely keep your eyes open?
Or perhaps you’ve been so anxious about starting a new job that you couldn’t sleep the night before, resulting in you feeling utterly drained on your first day.
This is precisely what happened to a tiny canine from Rhode Island.
Introducing Brody, the newest K-9 comfort dog at the Bristol Police Department.
This was supposed to be a significant day for the adorable pup as he was scheduled for his swearing-in ceremony.
Despite waking up early for this momentous occasion, the little fellow couldn’t resist the call of sleep during the actual event.
He dozed off right in the middle of it! Officer Keith Medeiros, Brody’s handler, humorously shared with The Dodo, “He plays really hard and he sleeps really hard. When he’s not playing, he’s sleeping, which is kind of tough because he sleeps a lot.”
The tiny furball was so overwhelmed with excitement that he couldn’t help but succumb to sleep, leaving the officers to proceed with the ceremony.
So, how did Brody land this job?
The police department was initially considering bringing a narcotics or bomb-sniffing dog into the team.
However, Mederios, the school resource officer, proposed a different idea: a therapy dog.
The team was thrilled with the suggestion, and Brody officially joined the team.
The timing was initially a concern as Brody needed to experience a typical workday while he was still new.
However, it turned out that Brody’s arrival was perfectly timed.
Medeiros noted, “People are really stressed, especially in law enforcement. Just by walking in the police department with Brody, people immediately smile, they immediately get into a better place. They want to pet him, want to hug him and it’s just a really good thing.”
Brody proved to be an excellent addition to the team.
However, when it came to his swearing-in, he decided to let the others handle that part while he took a nap.
The amusing incident was captured on video and shared on the Bristol Police Department’s Facebook page, garnering over 379,000 views and more than 800 shares, making Brody a local
sensation!
There’s a particularly funny moment where Brody rolls onto his side, a look of pure bliss on his tiny face.
The officers try to maintain their professionalism, but it’s clear that Brody’s antics bring a smile to their faces!
Mederios recounted, “We put him down on the desk and he was just so comfortable that he lay down and fell asleep.”
Mederios didn’t mind taking the oath on behalf of the sleepy little guy.
Given the joy that Brody has already brought to so many people, it’s clear that he’s going to do a fantastic job!
