Some dogs fetch bones, or slippers, or do whatever else their owners command of them.

But Chowder, a bulldog from Seattle, WA, has hobbies all of his own.

He likes to skateboard. Chowder could skateboard all day and all night if his humans let him.

Chowder’s obsession with skateboarding all started when he saw some kids skimboarding at the beach.

It looked like a lot of fun, so he decided he would give it a try.

“We were walking along the beach and there was a child that had a skimboard,” his mom explains. “And Chowder just jumped on the skimboard and started riding across the water.”

“My daughter and I, we looked at each other and thought, ‘Wow, I wonder if a skateboard would be something he would enjoy.”

Well, mom was right because she bought Chowder his very own skateboard from the thrift shop.

He immediately jumped right on the skateboard as soon as mom set it down.

“He really didn’t want help, he was trying to learn,” mom said. “He was super focused.”

For Chowder, skateboarding became life.

“He was sitting at our front door 24-7 waiting to go out in the driveway,” Mom explains.

Chowder even tried to bring his skateboard with him to bed.

But mom wasn’t going to let that slide.

While the Goodwill board was OK for a bit, it wasn’t quite wide enough for Chowder and he kept falling off of it.

So, mom decided that she would get Chowder a brand new skateboard.

And boy was Chowder excited. He was jumping all over the place and so happy to see that new skateboard. He could barely wait for dad to set it down.

Now, Chowder can skateboard super fast. He’s basically a doggie Tony Hawk.

His parents always make sure that he’s skating in a safe area on a closed road where the pavement isn’t too hot.

And Chowder doesn’t like skating in the same old place all the time. So, his dad is always looking for some new places where he can safely shred on his skateboard.

And he doesn’t exactly like when it’s time to go home after a day of skateboarding. He puts up a bit of a fight when his parents try to take his skateboard away.

He bites down on it and he won’t let it go.

“Come on Chowder, it’s time to go home buddy,” Chowder’s parents plead with him.

Once they reminded him that home is where dinner is, he was a little more compliant. Chowder sure does love his dinner and licks his chops when dinner is mentioned. But sometimes that bribe doesn’t always work. His parents will sometimes offer car rides or treats.

But none of that really matters to Chowder. He just wants one thing.

“He just wants to skate. So he’s not as much of a cuddler. He’s just very sweet,” his mom said.
