You know that look your dog gives you when you are eating something tasty and he wants some of it.

Most of us cave in and give them a bite, but what if the things we eat aren’t good for dogs? What if that little piece of food you dropped on the floor for your dog could cause serious health problems?

Your vet can tell you what human foods are OK for dogs and which ones aren’t. Why take a chance? Just make your dog his own tasty treats that he can eat instead of human food, and you won’t have to worry about it or feel guilty about giving your pet something he loves.

This recipe from Damn Delicious will show you how to make peanut butter banana dog treats that taste good to your dog and are good for him.

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups old fashioned oats, or more, as needed
  • 2 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil, melted

Directions:

Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat; set aside.

Step 2: In a large bowl, combine oats, bananas, peanut butter, and coconut oil. Add an additional 2 tablespoons of oats at a time just until the dough is no longer sticky.

Step 3: Working on a lightly floured surface, knead the dough until it comes together. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough to 1/4 inch thick. Using cookie cutters, cut out the desired shapes, and then place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Step 4: Bake until the edges are golden brown, about 10 to 12 minutes.

Step 5: Let cool completely.

Making your own treats for your dog will give you more control over the ingredients and what your dog eats.

Treats you buy in the store are processed and are rarely healthy. The treats you make in your own kitchen are made from healthy ingredients that you know are good for your dog.

In the end, your dog just wants to eat something you give him.

He doesn’t care if you make them yourself or if you pay a lot for them in the store. He doesn’t know what’s healthy and what isn’t, but he does know what tastes good. You might even find that you enjoy making dog treats so much that you want to make them for your friends’ pets, too. Some people even make treats and sell them online or at local swap meets.
