In 2017, animal lover Jazmin Felder heard distressed meows coming from a tree in her backyard. Jazmin ran outside and found a scared stray cat staring down at her. The cat was in one of the highest branches on the tree, and it didn’t look like he knew how to get down. He was so happy to see Jazmin!
Jazmin wanted to take in the stray cat, but she already had four cats. She wasn’t sure if she had space for another cat, but once she spent some time with the shy kitty, she found herself falling in love with him.
Jazmin decided she had room for one more cat, and she officially adopted him. She named him Buddy.
“I was raised to always take care of what life brought to me,” Jazmin told The Dodo. “And every time a cat crossed my doorstep, I gave them a home of their own and all of my love.”
Buddy loved spending time with Jazmin, but he was shier around the other cats in the house. He would often run away from the cats when they tried to play with him, and he also refused to cuddle with them at naptime. Jazmin worried that Buddy would never connect with her other cats.
Then, Jazmin found a five-week-old stray kitten cowering under her neighbor’s house. She took this sweet kitty in too and named her Hannah.
When Jazmin brought Hannah home, Buddy immediately came over to see her. For once, he seemed interested in another cat.
“He has always been reserved and shy, but from the first moment of meeting her his entire personality changed,” Jazmin said.
Buddy began spending more and more time with Hannah. The kitten was the opposite of Buddy—she was outgoing and affectionate and loved spending time other cats. Hannah helped Buddy get out of his shell, and now, the pair are inseparable!
Jazmin was amazed to see Buddy’s transformation. The cat went from scared and shy to outgoing and happy!
Hannah also helped Buddy connect with the other four rescue cats. Now, all six cats sleep in a big cuddle pile. Still, though, Hannah is Buddy’s one true love, and he finds lots of ways to show her how much she means to him.
“Buddy will take food and give it to Hannah before he starts to eat himself,” Jazmin said. “They enjoy batting cat toys back and forth, and seeing who can reach the top of the stairs first. We are sure Buddy lets Hannah win!”
Hannah and Buddy are an adorable bonded pair who love each other more than anything in the world. We’re so glad Hannah helped Buddy get out of his shell and showed him how to be a cat!
