Every dog has a story, and Burreaux, a black lab from Louisiana is no different.
Burreaux and his two siblings, Joe and O, were named after the Louisiana State University football team quarterback and coach.
The names were given to them by Sarah Walton, a volunteer at the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana. It turns out, she is a huge fan of LSU football. She was also the one who went to pick up the three 8-week-old puppies from animal control and bring them back to the Humane Society.
It was a crucial moment for the puppies.
If no one rescued them, they would have been put to sleep. However, the Humane Society saw something special in all three of the pups. Walton and the other volunteers knew that if they worked hard, they would be able to find them new homes.
While all of the puppies were beautiful, Walton noticed that Burreaux, in particular, stood out more than the rest of puppies in the litter. She noticed that every time someone talked to him in a high-pitched voice, he would start smiling and showing off his teeth.
The pup had the most adorable little grin that made him completely unique.
Walton elaborated more on the situation in an interview with The Dodo.
“It’s whenever you’re talking real sweet to him … he gets this smile like he wants something,” said Walton, “like he’s telling you, ‘Come pet me, come love me.'”
Despite his smiling abilities though, Burreax’s brother, Joe, was adopted first.
Joe was really good at playing fetch, a talent that quickly got him scooped up by a family.
“The entire litter was friendly and sweet and they like to play,” said Walton. “Burreaux and his sister are starting to learn fetch, too.”
Unfortunately, since Burreax’s fetching talent was still in the developing phase, the volunteers had to come up with a new angle to show the public why they should adopt him. That’s when they remembered his lovely smile.
A video of Burreaux’s goofy grin was posted on the HSNL Facebook page and it instantly started drumming up a lot of attention.
“We were thinking, ‘Burreaux wants a home so bad that he’s always smiling, trying to cute it up,'” said Walton. “So we took that video and now it’s going viral.”
Just like a young toddler, Burreaux opens his mouth to show off his teeth when he is happy.
It’s a great way of getting people’s attention. He will likely make some family feel very loved one day. While technically, Burreaux hasn’t been officially adopted yet, there’s no doubt that it won’t be long now.
The video of his smile has racked up close to 300,000 views in the last week, and based on the heartwarming comments, hundreds of people all across the world have already fallen in love with the pup.
Just a few days ago, The Human Society posted a new comment that says: “Adoption pending”.
If you think Burreaux’s smile is big now, just wait until he hears the news. We can’t imagine how big of a smile Burreaux will show off when he finds out that he officially has a new family. It will likely cause us all to experience cuteness overload. That’s how cute this little guy is. Don’t believe us? Just see for yourself.
