In the first quarter of 2020, the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana welcomed a Labrador Retriever mix puppy to their home. This pup had a smile that could melt anyone in any corner of the planet.
Director Courtney Wingate was at Caddo Animal Control and it was there that she noticed three little Lab puppies in a kennel. She just couldn’t leave the pups behind especially after seeing that adorable smile!
Wingate then called volunteer Sarrah Walton who soon arrived to pick up the 8-week-old Lab pups. Walton, a huge fan of the Louisiana State University’s football team, named dog siblings Joe, Burreaux, and O.
Names of the quarterback and coach.
The three pups tested positive for parvovirus while at the shelter, but eventually checked out healthy when they were transferred to the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana.
That’s a relief.
But after a few days, Burreaux got sick. The pup had the virus after a vet carried out the check up. But the pup made a wonderful recovery after receiving treatment at the animal hospital.
That’s a good dog!
Perhaps it was that recovery that had the pup grinning from ear to ear. Walton noticed that Burreaux would smile when someone praised him with a high-pitched voice.
Tell him he’s a good boy though and the smile gets bigger.
“It’s whenever you’re talking real sweet to him … he gets this smile like he wants something,” Walton told The Dodo. “[It’s] like he’s telling you, ‘Come pet me, come love me.’”
The rescue soon posted a video of Joe playing fetch on Facebook. It was a hit and it was that adorable talent that had him adopted immediately.
“The entire litter was friendly and sweet, and they like to play,” Walton said. “Burreaux and his sister are starting to learn fetch, too.”
Walton and Wingate then focusd Joe’s siblings as they wanted the other pups to find forever families too. Burreaux wasn’t exactly good at playing fetch but talking sweetly to the pup did the trick.
The pup’s signature sweet smile was caught on camera!
“And we were thinking, ‘Burreaux wants a home so bad that he’s always smiling, trying to cute it up,’” Walton said. “So we took that video, and now it’s going viral.”
A smile makes the world a better place.
Burreaux is described by the rescue as an active, playful, and sweet dog. The pup was “the runt of the bunch” but is up to date on his vaccinations. He’s also been neutered.
The pup has been microchipped and is also on flea and tick prevention. There’s some hair loss on his tail, but by the looks of it, they grew back anyway.
The adoption fee for Burreaux was $200 and it comes with that gorgeous smile. And he soon got adopted come March.
