Scared shelter dogs cling to each other for comfort until the right person finds them

When she came across a picture of two scared pit bulls cuddled up together at a nearby shelter, the sweet snap immediately struck a chord with dog fosterer Minda, and she just knew that she had to take the dogs in for herself.

In a video uploaded onto YouTube by The Dodo, the dog-lover explained what happened the minute she fell in love with the two pitties:

“I saw a picture of them hunched over in a corner holding on to each other. They looked so broken,” Minda said. “Their owner had dropped them off at the shelter without an explanation. It seemed all they had left was each other.” She added, “They needed to learn that love felt like, and I wanted to be the one to teach them.”

Minda and her husband Casey rushed to the shelter and immediately decided that they were going to foster the sweet dogs.

Louie, the smaller black pittie, was still so timid and scared. As the family drove home, he stood under Bridget and was shaking nonstop. Bridget seemed to think it was her job to keep Louie safe, and that’s exactly what she did. She stood up tall and kept an eye out for him as they drove down unfamiliar streets to get to their first-ever loving home.

“They had more trust in each other than they did for anyone else,” Minda said.

When the dogs first got home, Minda recalled that while Louie was hesitant, Bridget instantly seemed to realize that they had arrived at a safe place.

She hopped straight up onto the couch, wagged her tail and made herself comfortable, and she was finally able to relax for the very first time.

” She didn’t have to worry about where she was, or if Louie was okay,” Minda said

The dogs weren’t used to being in a home, so Minda and Casey had to teach the two pups basic tricks like how to sit, and they decided to crate train them until they knew their way around the house. Louis and Bridget still had their special bond, and naturally, the two dogs shared the same crate.

It was then time for the two best friends to meet the other household dogs.

“It was amazing to see them open up just by being in our home,” Minda said. “But it wasn’t until we introduced Bridget and Louis to our dogs that we really saw a change in them. They were more excited meeting our dogs than meeting us.”

Even though the two pit bulls were opening up more and more, they were still completely attached to each other. If one went outside, the other had to be outside. And if one went onto the couch – you’ve guessed it- so did the other. They were never separate. When the dogs were ready to be adopted, it was incredibly important that they stayed together.

Despite living all the way over in San Diego, a woman named Monica had been following the pitties’ story from months, right from that very first photo of them huddled together in the shelter. They had wormed their way into her heart before she had even met them, and she immediately reached out to Minda to show her interest.

Luckily, Minda decided that Monica would be a perfect fit for the two pups, so the family drove Bridget and Louie the long journey from Houston to San Diego to meet their new mom. Although Minda admitted to struggling to let go of her two foster pups, she knew that she had made the right decision.

“When you Foster, it’s never easy to let go. You fall in love with every little moment you spend with them, and only want them to have a perfect life.” Minda said. “When they finally got to their new home, it just felt so right. This is where they were meant to be. Where they would be loved and cared for, where they would be happy.”

Bridget and Louie have been happily living with Monica for a few years now. Louie is finally the more energetic and outgoing one, while Bridget still prefers to curl up on the couch for hours. And above all, the dogs still prefer each other over anyone else. Watch the adorable video of the dogs’ story below.
