Life can work in mysterious ways, and sometimes, it feels like pure fate.
Alyssa and her boyfriend, Zachary Chin, were just starting their day when a Facebook post from Trenton Animals Rock caught Alyssa’s eye.
The post featured a Chow Chow/Shar-Pei mix, looking terrified in the shelter, often found shivering in the corner of his kennel.
What truly grabbed Alyssa’s attention was the dog’s infectious smile and an uncanny resemblance to Zack’s dog, Arthur.
In an interview with The Dodo, Alyssa shared:
“I showed the post to Zack, and he couldn’t believe the similarities either. After reading the description, Zack looked at me and said something along the lines of, ‘Well, you know what we have to do now — we have to save him.’”
The idea of adopting a second dog hadn’t crossed their minds until that moment.
But seeing Wes (who was named Max at the time), and noting his resemblance to Arthur, they felt it was destiny calling.
Without wasting any time, they reached out to Trenton Animal Rocks, expressing their desire to foster and eventually adopt Wes.
The shelter described him as an incredibly sweet dog, but one who was deeply traumatized by his surroundings.
“We waited for him in the outdoor ‘meeting’ area and heard the shelter team try to calm him down as he was still shivering in his kennel … We knew Wes couldn’t stay in the shelter and be scared any longer…” Alyssa recalled.
The couple’s heart ached for Wes, and they decided on the spot to take him home after their initial meeting.
Wes’s transition to his new home was initially marked by nervousness.
But as days turned into weeks, the once timid dog began to trust his new family, revealing a vibrant personality.
And to everyone’s delight, Wes and Arthur eventually became buddies.
Their bond was so strong that it felt as if they had known each other for ages.
Alyssa often joked about their uncanny resemblance, saying they were like the “same dog in a different font.”
While their looks were strikingly similar, their personalities had subtle differences, yet they complemented each other beautifully.
Curiosity got the better of the couple, and they decided to get a DNA test for Wes to determine his exact breed.
They also got one for Arthur for health reasons.
They weren’t expecting any surprises from the results.
But what they discovered left them astounded.
In addition to finding out that he was a full Shar-Pei, the reason behind Wes and Arthur’s striking resemblance and similar mannerisms was unveiled.
They were, in fact, brothers!
Alyssa and Zack were shocked, and of course, over the moon about the news.
It was definitely the perfect ending to a beautiful adoption story.
Reflecting on the entire experience, Alyssa told The Dodo,
“It feels great knowing that not only did we rescue Wes and give him the life that he’s always deserved, but that he was also united with his brother, who he’s become so close with and gets to live a peaceful life with his best friend/brother by his side.”
