For many stray and homeless dogs, life at the pound isn’t much better than being out in the streets.
Dora the dog had been rescued and taken to the city pound, but despite being off the streets, her life hadn’t really improved.
Pounds are often overrun and understaffed, and Dora was sadly deprived of human affection and proper medical care. Thankfully, a small, nonprofit animal rescue organization called Howl Of A Dog stepped in and rescued her.
When Dora arrived at Howl Of A Dog’s rescue center, the poor pooch was traumatized, underweight, and had some skin problems that required medical attention. Staff described her journey to emotional recovery as a “slow but eventually a happy ending one.”
Since the day of her rescue, staff worked to get Dora seen by people all over the world in the hopes that someone would want to adopt her. And she was in luck!
A family from the UK fell in love with Dora’s pictures and videos that were shared on Howl Of A Dog’s website and decided instantly that they wanted to adopt her.
They couldn’t wait to shower her with gifts! In fact, they were so eager to show their love for their new pup, that as they waited for her to make her 1500-mile long journey from Romania, they sent over a special surprise all the way from the UK.
Howl Of A Dog shared the exciting moment that the package arrived over on their YouTube channel, and it has now been viewed by over 400,000 people all over the world.
“Dora’s adoptive family decided to make her a beautiful surprise and sent her some very nice gifts – toys, yummy treats and a cute letter with lots of love and hugs from her new mom,” Howl Of A Dog wrote in their caption.
It’s clear to see from the video just how much Dora is enjoying her box of treats. She’s all too eager to play with her new toys and munch on some of her snacks, and she even appears to read the card that arrived with her gifts!
“She was so happy when we unwrapped the parcel,” Howl Of A Dog said, “as if she knew the gifts were from a very special person.”
Among the gifts was something really special – a knitted doll that looks like Dora’s mom, so that she has something to snuggle with until she gets the real thing! Dora’s new life in England is miles away (literally and figuratively) from the life she experienced in Romania.
“Dora will live in the rural region of Devon, close to lots of beautiful beaches and with miles and miles of beautiful countryside, with forests, lakes, rivers and moorland…” Howl Of A Dog said. “A perfect adventure playground!”
What’s more, Dora will also have a gentle canine playmate and friend waiting there for her – “Cole, who will be Dora’s bigger brother and protector.”
After her difficult past, Dora deserves every ounce of happiness that is about to come her way!
