The Carson Shelter in Gardena, California is high-kill shelter, but folks who run the Saving Carson Shelter Dogs aim to reduce those numbers. They promote and advertise the shelter’s animals who are up for adoption in hopes that they can save as many animal lives as they can.
And time was running out for a pup named Benny.
Benny was 8-months-old when he was placed in the shelter. Here’s how he was promoted by the Saving Carson Shelter Dogs Facebook page.
“#A4899631 My name is BENNY I’m an approximately 8-month-old male pit bull. I am not yet neutered. I have been at the Carson Animal Care Center since November 23, 2015. I will be available on November 29, 2015. You can visit me at my temporary home at C317.”
Unfortunately, no one had shown any interest in Benny for a while.
Despite the fact that Benny was completely healthy and perfectly loveable, he was close to being euthanized simply because he was taking up space. Poor Benny looked so very sad in his cage all alone, fearful of what his future might hold.
Thankfully, a family stepped up just in the nick of time to take Benny home with them. Benny was so used to being stuck in his shelter cage all alone that he could barely believe that he was going to go home with a loving family.
When Benny’s cage was opened he sort of cowered back, thinking that it would be his final walk.
But Benny eventually figured out what was going on. He slowly stepped out of the cage and allowed a leashed to be put around his neck. That’s when it finally hit him… not only was he safe from being put to death but he would get to go home to a loving family.
Benny was completely changed from that moment forward. He went from a sad puppy to a jubilant dog who now had a forever home.
And talk about jumping for joy.
Benny was jumping around and couldn’t have been happier. It was the most precious sight you could see. The video of him being set free from the shelter was posted on Facebook where it ended up going viral and was shared more than 17,000 times and viewed almost 4 million times.
The internet was overjoyed to see Benny happy and free.
“So beautiful animals he’s like I’m outta here god bless benny,” one Facebook user said.
