Banner the Husky is a truly heroic pup. This sweet three-year-old service dog has been taking care of her mom Whitney Braley since she was just a puppy. Braley trained Banner to help with PTSD episodes, anxiety attacks, medication retrieval, and more.
Banner truly has a heart of gold, and she loves rescuing people and animals in need. In July 2018, she showed how much love she has in her heart when she rescued seven dying kittens from the woods.
Banner is used to being around kittens because Braley often rescues and fosters stray cats.
“We do a lot of rescue, and she’s always attached to kittens,” Braley told Bored Panda. “Two years ago I had my first bottle baby kitten that was found in a ditch, and Banner raised her. That particular cat still lives with us but she’s fostered at least ten different litters of kittens over the years.”
Braley usually takes the lead on the dog rescues, but the rescue of the kittens in a box was all Banner’s idea.
That morning, Banner wouldn’t stop whining and pacing, and she kept pulling on Braley’s dress. Braley told Banner to come to her, but Banner didn’t listen, which was very unlike her. She just kept trying to get Braley to follow her into the woods near their home in Georgia.
Braley let Banner lead her into the woods. Banner took her straight to a closed cardboard box. Braley opened it, and she found seven little kittens inside.
The kittens were just a day old, and they were all freezing cold and silent. They were clearly close to death.
“Someone must have just put them into a cardboard box, closed the lid tight and left them there to die,” Braley said to Metro. “They probably thought that no one would ever discover them. I don’t even know how Banner knew they were in there. The kittens were freezing and weren’t meowing or anything.”
Braley took the kittens home, warmed them up, and fed them. Soon, the little cats started coming back to life!
Banner barely left the kittens’ side during this time. She became a foster mom to the cats, and the cats quickly grew attached to her.

The cats are now a few weeks old, and they’re all doing great. They’re happy and healthy, and they love spending time with Banner.
“She is a really maternal and loving dog. I’ve never met another dog like Banner,” Braley said. “The kittens are really lucky. If she didn’t find them, there is no way they would have made it.”
Once the kittens are old enough, Braley will find great forever homes for them. For now, the kittens are happy spending all their time with their superhero of a foster mom! If you’d like to see more photos of Banner and her kitten babies, check out her Instagram page.
