Samson is a hard-working service dog that is about as socially awkward as you can get.
On the inside, he desperately wants to make new friends. But as you can see, when he’s cornered by a bunch of rambunctious pups, he just doesn’t know how to play with them.
Even his owner, Lea, admits that Samson’s social skills leave something to be desired.
When he’s at the dog park, he’s off in his own little world.
“Samson is very awkward with other dogs or even other humans. When he’s at the dog park, he’ll always be the odd one out just sitting in a corner doing his own thing, but not interacting with other dogs.”
Samson originally joined the family as a medical response service dog, but according to Lea, sometimes he takes that role a little bit too seriously.
“Even when he gets time off to play, he has a hard time understanding when he can just be a dog.”
That’s not to say he’s totally aloof when it comes to giving out his affections. His charming personality really shines through when he spends one-on-one time with his mama.
But, would Samson ever get to have some friends outside of his human family? Thankfully, that answer is tyes!
Samson’s life changed forever the day he spotted a kitten through a glass window.
He had never seen such a beautiful sight before, and his tail started wagging a mile a minute when the cat playfully pawed back at him.
The kitten brought out Samson’s desire for deep social connections, something that no dog had ever done before.
It was an “aha” moment for Lea when she realized what had been going on this entire time.
It turns out that Samson the dog was actually a cat person!
Some parents give their kids puppies or kittens as a gift, and Lea decided to do the same for her furry kiddo when she adopted an adorable kitty named Cleo.
Samson was so excited about meeting his new BFF, he couldn’t control himself!
The moment Lea lifted Cleo out of the pet carrier, Samson was beside himself with blissful cheer.
Talk about making fast friends on the first day of kindergarten!
The two bonded just like, and fell into a natural routine of spending 24/7 with one another.
It’s as if they were two old souls who had been trying to find their way back to each other after spending several lifetimes apart.
Just look at them and tell me they weren’t meant for each other!

No matter how big or small you are, friendship knows no bounds.
“It was so heartwarming to see him just come out of his shell and immediately form that connection with Cleo. Samson treated Cleo differently than other animals in his life. He immediately wanted to be with her at all times.”
Their playtime isn’t just limited to what they do in the house. Cleo is an outdoors cat in a very human sense of the word – she loves to go on hikes with Samson and the family.
Check it out, she even has her very own hooman backpack to hang out in when she gets tired of walking!
And what happens when she gets tired of her getting toted around like royalty in her hooman backpack?
Well, she hops straight onto Samson’s back!
She’ll dig her claws into his harness to make sure she doesn’t fall off. And of course, Samson makes sure he walks with the utmost care when he’s carrying precious cargo on his back.
