Lucy, Mitzy, and Winnie are three adorable senior terriers who all grew up in the same house. Unfortunately, as their owner got older, they were no longer able to care for the three dogs. And so, they sadly had to surrender the dogs to the RSPCA in Martlesham, England.
Lucy, Mitzy, and Winnie are 11, 10, and 9 respectively. In dog years, that makes them a combined age of 168 years old.
It’s always hard for shelters to find homes for senior dogs—typically, they’re the ones who end up sitting in the shelter the longest. According to the East Anglian Times, it takes 15 days on average to find a home for a dog who’s under six months old, and it takes about 48 days to place a dog who’s over seven years old.
With Winnie, Lucy, and Mitzy, the RSPCA faced a truly daunting task: they needed to find a home for three senior dogs who are bonded.
“We know it will be difficult to find a home prepared to take on all three elderly dogs– but we don’t have the heart to separate them,” Zoe Barrett, the deputy manager of the RSPCA’S Martlesham branch, told the East Anglian Times. “They are absolutely lovely, affectionate girls who have been together most of their lives. We know a lot of people are put off by adopting older dogs but these cheeky little terriers are still full of life and would be ideal for some families.”
Barrett said that if they had to, they would adopt the girls out separately, but they hoped it wouldn’t come to that. The staff at the RSPCA fell in love with the three older dogs, and they wanted them to spend their golden years together in a wonderful, loving home.
The RSPCA created a page for the three dogs on their website. On it, they discussed what the dogs were looking for in a home. They said that the three pups all walked well on a leash and that they loved cuddling with their owners.
“[Lucy, Mitzy, and Winnie] are the absolute best of friends so we would love to find them a nice cozy retirement home together, so they can spend the rest of their lives providing their new humans with 3 x the amount of love,” the RSPCA wrote.
The RSPCA also shot a video showcasing the three dogs. The video discussed their unique personalities, and it showed how sweet the dogs are together!
Thankfully, the RSPCA’s publicity efforts worked. A kind soul has now reserved all three dogs. If all goes well, the three girls will soon be going to a wonderful forever home together.
These three senior dogs were probably scared and confused when they were brought into the shelter, but through this rough time, they always had each other. Soon, these three dogs will be going to their woof-derful forever home!
