There are just some dogs who are unlucky enough to be victims of circumstances.
They were taken in, with the promise of being fed, sheltered, and accompanied throughout their lives.
These promises, however, can be broken. Fortunately, there are still kind-hearted people who make sure that these dogs get a second lease on life.
A stray dog, seemingly lost and alone, found solace on a woman named Emily’s neighbor’s doorstep.
The security camera footage revealed the dog’s frequent visits, capturing moments of the canine seeking shelter and warmth on the porch.
Despite the neighbor’s attempts to approach and help the dog, he would always flee, showcasing his apprehensive nature.
Emily’s encounter with the dog was rather serendipitous. During a routine walk with her own dogs, Kokoro and Chibi, she noticed the stray trailing behind them.
With a gentle demeanor and an evident trust in Emily’s pets, the dog followed them straight into her backyard.
His initial nervousness was palpable; his tail drooped, and his eyes darted around, trying to gauge his new surroundings.
Inviting the dog into her home, Emily observed his reactions. It seemed as though he had never been inside a house before. The unfamiliarity was evident in his cautious steps and the way he scanned the room.
However, with a little patience and time, he found a cozy spot to settle down.
The transformation from a nervous stray to a more relaxed and joyful dog was evident after just one night under Emily’s care.
Prioritizing his health, Emily took him to the vet. The check-up revealed that while he was free from parasites and worms, he was significantly underweight.
A bath followed, and though he appeared melancholic during the process, it was clear he was on a path to recovery and rejuvenation.
The stray’s adaptability was commendable. Observing Emily’s dogs, he began to mimic their behavior, learning the ways of a domesticated pet. The camaraderie between the dogs was heartening.
With each passing day, the dog’s demeanor transformed. The once drooping tail now wagged with joy, and his once cautious steps turned into playful trots.
Emily fondly recalls moments of him lounging around, his body sprawled in a relaxed ‘sploot,’ indicating his growing comfort in his temporary home.
However, not everything was smooth sailing. The dog showcased signs of separation anxiety, yearning for constant attention and companionship. Emily, recognizing his needs, felt he deserved a home where he would receive undivided love and care.
And so, Emily reached out to a friend to see if they’d take in the pup. They happily agreed and named him Mello, owing to his calm and sweet nature.
Sweet Mello now has the forever home he deserves, and Emily is so thrilled.
