It’s always heartbreaking to hear about a dog that’s abandoned on the streets.
All we want is for these pups to be saved.
Princess is a cute doggie who was found tied to a fence in Polk County, Florida.
The canine was left outside during one of the coldest nights of the year — alone, scared, and freezing.
The dog, who bore a collar with the name Princess written on it, was so cold that she couldn’t stand touching the frigid ground with her paws, so she climbed onto the fence she was tied to in order to find shelter- if that was even possible.
The next day, she was found by a local woman, who was horrified at the sight.
“She was shaking the entire time, from the moment she was brought in,” said Nichole Combee, who found the abandoned dog.
Combee took a picture of the trembling dog and then released her and took her home.
She was shocked to find out that the dog had the phrase “Take care of me” written on her collar, too.
When she took her home, she knew that Princess would need medical help right away, because she was covered in mange.
When she took her to the vet, however, she realized that this was not the only problem the dog had to be treated for.
Her temperature was 104 degrees, and she also had worms. It was obvious that the dog had been suffering for a long time before Combee found her.
The dog, after being checked by the vet, was taken to Polk County Animal Control, where she is being treated for her medical issues.
Combee will be taking her home and officially adopting her when she has fully recovered, been spayed, and been vaccinated.
But the story doesn’t end here. The police are digging deeper into Princess’s background story.
“We are investigating exactly what happened to get her in the situation she is in,” Alicia Mantautou, spokesperson for the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, told Fox13 News.
It is so sad to see animals suffer like this, especially when you know that the only thing that they need is a little affection, which they will return multiplied whenever they get the chance.
According to statistics, 3.3 million dogs are taken in by local shelters nationwide, 48% of which are adopted, and 20% are euthanized.
But, how can we prevent or help stop pet abandonment?
First of all, we can all spay or neuter our pets.
Also, people are strongly advised to adopt pets instead of buying, which is practically a way to minimize breeding.
Additionally, educating our family and friends is key to raising a generation that respects animal rights and doesn’t see them as accessories that can be discarded when no longer wanted.
Hopefully, more people will take Combee’s lead and help out pups like Princess.
