The people at Hope for Paws have dedicated their lives to rescuing animals in need. However, sometimes they come across cases that even leave them shocked, despite the number of situations they have been in.
Seeing the deep sadness and fear expressed by this sweet dog until she realized she was safe is something that the rescuers will remember for a long time.
Someone called Hope for Paws about a German Shepherd mix that was cowering under a van in their driveway. The organization immediately jumped into action and drove over to see if the dog was still there.
Being prepared for this type of situation, they made sure to bring along a cheeseburger to lure the dog out. After all, these are rescue experts and they know some of the best methods for enticing terrified dogs. One of the most effective methods just happens to be in the form of a cheeseburger.
When they arrived, they found her in the same exact spot she had been in when the person had called. She was still scared and still hiding under the vehicle. She was so petrified that she hadn’t even moved.
One of the Hope for Paws workers, Loreta, started by offering the dog pieces of cheeseburger to see if she would come out on her own. The dog wasn’t quite ready to trust anyone that much, even if they did have one of the tastiest things on the planet in one of their hands.
Instead, she ran between two buildings in a desperate attempt at regaining freedom.
Thankfully, the route she chose was a dead end and the rescuers still had another chance to try to coax her into coming with them.
That’s when she started telling them exactly how she felt about the whole situation.
Through a series of cries and whines, she expressed how sad and scared she felt. It nearly broke the rescuers’ hearts to hear it.
They kept speaking to her softly and eventually managed to get a snare over her head. Once she was out in the open, they added a second snare just to be safe. After that, things began to look a little less scary.
A second chance
She went into the cage on her own, and finally got a chance to enjoy the burger that had been waiting for her. The rescuers named her Rain.
Rain would get a trip to the vet and a nice bath. She was already warming up to the people around her as the fear faded. She genuinely seemed to appreciate the warm water and attention.
By the time she was clean she was ready to curl up on the couch with one of her rescuers. It was like seeing a completely different dog than the one they had met only a couple of hours before.
In fact, Rain improved so much that she was already ready for adoption in two weeks. The happy and lively dog would join a family that already had another dog for her to play with. Talk about heaven!
Sometimes, the only thing needed to change a life is a little bit of love and genuine care.
