We have all experienced a rude awakening before. Not the kind of rude awakening that reminds us of something we ought to have known, but the actual kind – when someone rudely wakes you up. As teenagers, most of us remember our parents making a point to be as loud as possible on the weekends in order to wake us up before we “slept the day away”. As we get older, the offender simply changes from parents to dogs, and eventually, kids!
Being woken up by your parents, kids, or dogs is usually not the best way to start your day.
Parents never have any subtlety when they go about waking kids up (they are probably just getting back at them for when they were infants). Typically, dogs have no issue with leaping on your bed, licking your face, and barking to go play at 6 in the morning.
Despite the occasional offenders, there IS a correct way to wake someone up.
Lexi is a Samoyed who has learned the CORRECT way to wake someone up. The key work to waking someone up well is “gently”. If you want to wake someone up without them being cranky and angry, you must do so gently.
Someone must have trained Lexi well!

While we don’t know a lot of the video’s story, we can see that Lexi knows what she is doing! As a Samoyed, she easily weighs between 35-45 lbs, plenty enough to wake up her dad by force if she wanted to.
In the video, we see her strategy.
With a gentle paw, she slowly places it on her dad’s chest a few times. Almost like waking up a baby, she slowly stirs him from his sleep. After a few chest pats, she moves on to her next element.
With her wet nose, she carefully touches his face.
Not an outright licking (that would be too much), but a gentle nose brushing. Lexi touches and taps her dad on the face with a, likely cool, wet nose. For a moment, we see her lose her patience and place her paw on his face!
Finally, her efforts are rewarded.
Nearing the end of her wake-up routine, her dad finally wakes up enough to speak. Is he happy? Of course not. Could he have been woken up less gently? Absolutely! From the looks of things, Lexi did a great job of waking up her dad.
The reason behind the wake-up routine is the promise of a walk!
There definitely was a reward in sight for Lexi. Going on a walk (usually the best part of a dog’s day) was a sure thing as soon as dad was awake. No wonder she was so gentle! She didn’t want to make her dad upset and NOT take her on a walk when he finally woke up. Better to do it gently and be on good terms.
In all the cuteness, Lexi got over 23 million views!

It looks like people really love to watch Lexi wake people up! 23 million views is massive. Too bad it’s a good incentive for dad to be filmed again being woken up!
