There are few animals that bring more joy to our lives than a happy dog.
Their positive energy, big tail wags, and full-body wiggles are enough to brighten even the gloomiest of days.
However, when a dog is sad, it can have the opposite effect on us.
We can try everything in the book to cheer them up, but sometimes, nothing seems to work.
This was the case for one Pitbull named Nala.
She was rescued from the streets of New Zealand and brought to a shelter.
For days, Nala wouldn’t do anything except lay in the back of her cage, looking sad and depressed.
When the shelter’s owner, Abbie Van Der Plax, tried to coax Nala from her corner, the dog did nothing but tremble and growl.
Finally, Abbie had an idea that she thought might work.
She brought her 7-year-old son, Zach, into work with her one day, hoping that he might have better luck with Nala–and he did.
The instant that Zach shows up in the room and sits at the edge of Nala’s cage, she gets up, tail wagging, and walks over to Zach.
She sticks her nose to the edge of the cage and allows Abbie and Zach to pet her for the first time.
After this breakthrough, Nala has made great strides towards dealing with her separation-distress issue.
She spends her time in Abbie’s home, playing with her sons.
Although Abbie tells us that Nala still has some weight to gin, she seems happy and healthy once again.
Nala prefers to spend time with kids, rather than adults and spends her nights sleeping with Annie’s two sons on their bed.
Abbie believes that Nala finds comfort with the two boys because wherever she came from, there must have been a child there that made her feel safe.
Now she is finding comfort in the presence of Abbie’s kids instead.
The family has decided to foster Nala and help her work through her anxiety issues.
Once she is completely happy and healthy, Nala will be available for adoption.
This is such a heartwarming story.
Because there are so many dogs out there in need of help and a home, it’s nice to know that at least one dog is receiving the help that she needs.
Although we can’t know for sure yet where Nala will end up, let’s hope that she ends up in a home with a child that can love her and make her feel safe.
If you have a dog at home, make sure to treat them well, and give them love every single day.
And if you are thinking about getting a dog, yourself, consider adopting an animal from the shelter.
There are so many sweet dogs that are in need of a loving home and owner, and that person could be you.
