It’s tough being a mom. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a human or feline, motherhood presents its own unique set of challenges. Sadly, sometime last year, one Mama cat was faced with a decision that forced her to leave one of her babies behind.

An Imgur user named Alan came across a tiny, calico kitten that had been abandoned by her mother at birth. The kitten was the runt of an unusually large litter and had trouble fighting the other kittens for mommy’s milk. As if this little fluff didn’t have a hard enough time as is, her Mama also abandoned her. She probably thought the stronger, healthier siblings were more likely to survive— and therefore, more worthy of her time and attention.

Cat Time explains, “Sometimes a mom will reject a sick kitten to avoid spreading the illness to the others. It’s not always the “runt” who is is ill, and a physically deformed kitten, such as a ‘Janus’ cat, may also be rejected, even though despite some physical differences, the kitten is perfectly healthy.”

Luckily for the little runt, Alan stepped up to be her new Mom.

Unfortunately, however, he was a bit in over his head. He had never cared for such a tiny kitten and hoped he was doing everything right. He posted pictures of the kitten online and asked the Imgur community for advice and help.

Alan named the kitten Sansa because her big blue eyes reminded him of the actress who played the character in Game of Thrones. The calico’s ginger-colored spots were also a perfect match to the actress’s red hair.

Alan took the community’s advice seriously and became an amazing kitty Dad. He bottle-fed her nutritious formula.

And made her breakfasts of yummy, scrambled eggs.

With all of Alan’s devotion, Sansa the runty kitten soon grew bigger and strong. She was a playful little character and often mistook Dad’s fingers for toys— but again, Dad consulted with his Imgur support group for advice.

The kitten’s blue eyes eventually changed colors, turning into a lovely golden green.

On December 1st, Alan updated his Imgur crew on Sansa’s progress. The runty kitten was now 132-days-old— and her transformation is incredible.

No longer a scraggly, runty little Fluff, Sansa is now taking after her regal namesake. Her gorgeous coat is thick and fluffy, and her eyes are a penetrating shade of green.

And even though Sansa was rejected by her Mama, she sure was blessed with a really great Dad.
