Now, if you’ve been following our cat news, you’ve likely seen our article explaining why cats meow. Most recently, however, one cat has been making headlines with an amazing meow that sounds exactly like she is saying ‘Hello!’

Ruby is an adorable black cat that is currently being housed at the Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary in the UK.

She arrived at the sanctuary in January of this year and garnered worldwide attention after sanctuary workers shared a video of her greeting their staff with an adorable hello.

Karen Weed, the center’s manager, told Manchester Evening News, “A couple of weeks ago we noticed that when we said ‘hello’, her meow sounded like she was saying it back.”

And indeed, it really does. The short video shows Ruby watching a staff member through her glass enclosure. When the female employee says hello, Ruby responds with a distinctive “hello” of her own!

As mentioned, Ruby arrived at the sanctuary approximately 6 weeks ago, after her owner moved to Australia. She has a flea bite allergy which means she requires more frequent flea treatments than the average cat— but that hasn’t stopped this little girl yet!

“Ruby is a typical girl and likes to do her own thing. If she’s not eating or sleeping, she does like a little fuss,” Vicky Wardell, Bleakholt’s mananager of cats told our staff via e-mail.

Ruby doesn’t seem to like other cats very much, but she smothers her caregivers in all the love she can muster. Whenever they come in to see her, she shows her affection with a pleasant hello.

Despite the attention Ruby has gotten with the video, Wardell says she still hasn’t found a furever home.

“Ruby is still waiting for a home,” Wardell wrote. Sadly, “she gets overlooked due to her age and color.”

Despite how talkative Ruby seems in the video, for the most part, Wardell says she is a quiet cat.

If anyone is interested in adopting Ruby, Wardell recommends coming and spending time with the panther cat. Because of her temperament, Ruby would also prefer a home without animals and without children under the age of 5.

Ruby is completely vetted and ready for adoption— and is sure to greet her new family with adorable “hellos” just like this!
