At first glance, Rexie looks like a happy, ordinary kitty, quite content with simply getting his photo taken— but after a look at these snaps, you’ll see that Rexie is anything but ordinary!
Dasha Minaeva, Rexie’s human, adopted the cat out of a terrible home, where he was severely beaten and abused.
Sadly, Rexie’s original owners were so bad to him, the kitty was left nearly paralyzed; he suffered a broken backbone and can no longer control his back legs.
Since Rexie adapted to his injuries, however, he doesn’t let anything keep him down.
“He does all the things other cats do, only he’s unable to use the toilet or scratch his ears on his own. But that’s what his human is for!” Dasha told Bored Panda.
Despite Rexie’s rough beginnings, with a brand-new loving home, he soon forgot all about his rocky start in life.
As Rexie became more comfortable with Dasha, his true personality started to come out. That’s when his human discovered he was the king of silly faces!
“He doesn’t even know he’s handicapped,” Dasha said.
Rexie did need a wheelchair at first— a pink, custom-made wheelchair too! But, with his big heart and determination, the spirited kitty quickly figured out how to move around on his own.
“He does much better without [the chair],” Dasha said.
“Cats are very independent and adjust perfectly. Rexie is more mobile and comfortable walking and running on his two feet.”
With his unbeatable spirit, Rexie is capable of just about anything. He never lets his disability get in the way of his kitty dreams— nor his career as a purrfessional model!
As mentioned, Dasha is a photographer—and with Rexie’s amazing and unexpected faces, the pairing was clearly meant to be.
It’s not easy to pose a cat for a photo… In fact, it’s basically impossible. But when it comes to Rexie, this kitty knows all the tricks of the trade. With his spitfire personality and gorgeous green eyes, it’s easy to see how he’s amassed over 180,000 followers on his adorable Instagram account.
Despite his difficult past and disability, Rexie is clearly a happy kitty! He is proof that these conditions rarely affect a cat’s fighting spirit and adorable personality.
