In winter 2018, Romania-based rescue group Howl of a Dog received a call about a stray dog found wandering by some railroad tracks. If the pup wasn’t rescued soon, he was in danger of being hit by a train.
Rescuers from the group hurried over, and they quickly spotted the white dog. The dog was skittish around people, and so he kept running away from the rescuers. But the rescuers refused to give up on him.
“It was too risky to attempt a rescue there, we were worried that he could run and get hit by a passing train, so we followed him, trying to redirect him towards a safer place,” Howl of a Dog wrote on YouTube. “It was quite a marathon as he ran away each time we approached him.”
The rescuers held out treats, trying to entice the pup. Finally, he got hungry enough that he decided to approach the rescuers.
As the dog walked over to them, the rescuers realized he was limping. They also saw he had a cut near his left eye. Once they had earned the pup’s trust, they put a leash on him and took him straight to the veterinarian.
At the vet, the rescuers learned the dog was blind in his left eye, but thankfully he could still see perfectly out of his right eye. They also were shocked to learn he was microchipped—they had thought he was a stray.
The rescuers called up the owner, excitedly thinking they would get to reunite a lost dog with their best buddy. But unfortunately, that wasn’t what happened. The owner said that the dog, Bobi, had run away from home, and he didn’t want him anymore.
The rescuers were shocked, and it became clear then why Bobi had been so nervous around them—he had a broken heart.
“We’ll never know why he left home and why he wasn’t wanted anymore, but we do not want to judge anyone, we’re just thankful that we were able to save him,” Howl of a Dog said.
Once Bobi was well enough, Howl of a Dog took him to their rescue center. Bobi ran around and played with the other dogs, acting like a puppy even though he was nine years old. This sweet senior dog had tons of life!
Howl of a Dog was so excited to see Bobi opening up.
“He’s very gentle, loving and obedient and he is still playful and curious. It’s like he’s living now the puppyhood he missed.”
Howl of a Dog posted a video of Bobi on their YouTube page, and at the end, they asked for adopters. A family in the United States saw the video and immediately fell in love with Bobi. They asked to adopt him, and Howl of a Dog agreed!
Now, Bobi is in a loving home with two dog siblings that he adores. Bobi’s new family sent Howl of a Dog a video showing how happy he is.
