We’ve seen stories of animal friendship in TV shows and a lot of movies. And it made all of us think if this is actually possible.

But the truth, indeed, is stranger than fiction because believe it or not, animals of different species can develop relationships exceeding normal symbiotic dynamics.

In a video shared by Just Live, two distinctly different animals found love and acceptance.

The video begins with a husky sitting beside a snowy owl. It then goes on to lick – a.k.a. kiss – the owl and it doesn’t seem to mind. It’s like a normal thing for both of them.

These animals have different behaviors and different interactions with nature. However, that didn’t stop Ilona, the husky, and Nyusha, the snow owl, from being best friends.

It all started when a man encountered a little owl.

He found the bird out and alone in the cold. He suspects the bird may have fallen out of its nest, and as young as it is, it never found its way back nor has the ability to.

It was crying loudly and it became harder to abandon it. At first, the man waited for the mom. He hoped that the mother would rescue the little bird.

However, nobody came for the owl.

The man can’t let the owl fend for its own. He then decided to take care of it by himself. He gave the owl shelter and food, feeding the hungry youngling every few hours.

After a couple of months, the owl was big and strong enough to hunt for bugs on its own. It would’ve been a proud parenting moment but something much more amazing is about to happen.

After two years, the man got a husky puppy.

It was strange because most people would introduce and socialize their dogs with people, cats, other household pets, and other dogs.

This one was way different. He socialized Ilona with Nyusha. It can be daunting for other pet owners but fortunately for the man, Ilona and Nyusha came together on their own.

The owl learned dog behaviors.

Even if it’s different from bird language, Nyusha learned how to accept a dog’s expression of affection like licks and playful bites.

The two even play tug-of-war with their favorite toy! Luckily, Ilona is still a puppy and Nyusha could still compete with her weight. We can’t say the same when Ilona grows stronger and bigger, though.

People all over the internet adored the dynamic duo.

“I think we are all basically the same inside: we need love, friendship, compassion, all the things that make life worthwhile. I’m always happy to see videos like these.” Said one commenter.

“It amazes me how two completely different animals can become friends.” Said another. “Animals could teach us humans a thing or two.”

Animal friendships are far more common than we think. All around the world, these kinds of stories come up like a koala and a wombat at an Australian zoo. In Belguim, they even had an orangutan teach a family of otters a thing or two. It just goes to show that humans and animals are made to build meaningful relationships.
