Rescuing a Pet

If you’re a dog lover you must have the awareness that so many dogs are in need of caring and loving homes. Rescuing a dog is a big step in helping those less fortunate dogs out there that may be abandoned or come from abusive situations. There are so many dogs in need of an owner who has the time and love to give.

And that’s just what happened for this beautiful golden dog.

A Shopping Spree

It’s incredibly adorable to watch a dog searching the aisles for her first toy. The owner holds the leash, letting his new dog sniff and search for the toy she wants. She goes up and down the aisles of the pet store, checking out this, examining that. All sorts of toys to choose from. And it looks like this dog is on a mission. She clearly has a certain something in mind.

The Five Dog Toy Types

The American Kennel Club lists the five types of toys that are available for dogs. They note that dog toys have evolved past the classic rope, bone, or stick of yesteryear. The world of dog toys has come a long way.

If you’ve ever been down the aisles of your local pet store, as our furry Labrador does in this video, you’ll see that the selection is immense. Dog toys are a huge part of the multi-billion dollar pet industry. One of the top sellers are toys that aid in training.

Training toys can guide dogs to know what is okay to chew on.

Other toys include treat dispensers that can help stave off boredom and interactive toys that help create a bond between owner and pet. There’s also the self-amusement toy that is usually strong and durable so the dog can enjoy her time at home.

But what our labrador is looking for is something altogether different.

After all that she’s been through, she’s looking for a source of support that comes from a plush comfort toy.

The Stuffed Hedgehog

This rescued labrador finally found what she was looking for when she sniffed the bin of stuffed toys. She stood on her hind legs to look inside and quickly spotted a furry stuffy. She gave it a good sniff, making sure it was to her liking, and gently picked it up with her mouth. Her owner asked her if that was the one she wanted and they were off to the checkout stand. The pooch now a million times happier.

How to Rescue a Pet

The American Kennel Club has a great article on how to choose a dog rescue group. You’ve decided to rescue a dog but you see that there are so many options to choose from and you don’t know what’s reputable. The AKC guide is a good place to start.
