Transitioning back to “normal life” after spending time in the military is notoriously difficult to do. For many, the transition never really happens as it should. For Palace, his 20 years in the military made his transition back to civilian life challenging. Thankfully, Palace had some incredible help.

One of the best ways to help people transition between stages in life is to give them something to care for. For some, that can be as simple as a plant. For the more active and available people, that “something to take care of” is a dog!

Noah and Lincoln are two rescue pit bulls that Palace and Vivian adopted.

Like all dogs, Noah and Lincoln have a ton of personality! With two loving dogs and a caring wife, Palace was set for success in his transition. Together, they all work to make sure their family is always ready and accepting of any troubles that might come there way.

Noah is the smaller of the two dogs.

The couple describes Noah as an “old man” and is very in tune with his dad’s (Palace) emotions. Whenever Palace has a day that is rougher than usual, Noah is there ready to snuggle and make sure he knows he is loved!

Lincoln is the crazier of the two.

There is always a crazy sibling, right? Lincoln is the more rambunctious of the two dogs, as well as being the bigger one. He probably started quite the fights when he was a pup! He is usually found playing with his mom and dad, especially running. Whenever Palace goes on a run, Lincoln is ready to go, always pushing his dad to go further and faster than ever before.

Palace has a special place in his heart for pit bulls.

The whole family has a lot in common. The special relationship that Palace has with his dogs was summed up well when he explained:

“People look at me and they’re like, ‘Oh my God, big, burly guy. He’s probably mean or he’s unapproachable,’ and I’m the exact opposite,”- The Dodo.

All of the big burly dogs (and men) of the house seem to have a loving and caring side that is equally as big as they are!

Nowadays, the trio has a stronger bond than ever before.

Through life and trials, this family is tighter than ever. Often, its the challenges and difficulties that make a relationship valuable. A genuine relationship has its bonds tested.

Those bonds are only reinforced by the way people see them.

When people see a pit bull, they are typically scared of the teeth and reputation they have. When people see Palace, they see a big, ex-military man with muscles bigger than their heads! It seems the dogs are the perfect fit for this family. Even through all the irrelevant “surface stuff” that they have in common, they will always be bonded together through their mutual love for one another.
