There is a famous rivalry between cats and dogs! Cartoons often feature this usually innocent feud between the two species. Is there hope for the two to get along?
One dog was raised with cats and though he may look dog on the outside, he is really a feline on the inside.

Bethany Castiller went to the shelter one day to get a dog.

While everyone has special needs for the dog they are going to get, Bethany needed to make sure that the dog they picked was going to do well with cats. With many dogs having issues with cats, there was a special selection that she had to choose from.
After visiting the shelter, it was obvious who their choice would be.

While many choose the dog, it seemed that Mako chose the family! Bethany told The Dodo:
“We joke that we didn’t really pick him, he picked us. When we went to the rescue shelter he had his back against the cage so we started petting him and he looked over his shoulder and gave direct eye contact and we just fell in love with the little guy.”
The family was assured that Mako got along well with cats… and that was mostly true.

After some time spent at home, the family soon realized that Mako did more than just “get along” with the cats – he fit in perfectly! Pecan and Gizmo are the cats that lived at home with Bethany and they became instant friends with Mako.

The reason Mako gets along so well? He thinks he is a cat!

They think that Mako was raised with cats because of some of the ways that he behaves. He never barks and his favorite things are all cat activities! He loves cat treats, sitting on top of counters and tables, and climbing anything he can see!
Mako has been caught in some hilarious places.

Because of his “cat tendencies”, Mako has been found in some hilarious places. Whether it is on top of a fridge or sitting on a window sill with his siblings watching birds, he is usually in places that most dogs would never find themselves.
He also loves to hang out with his cat siblings.

Mako loves Pecan and Gizmo. He puts himself wherever they are, no matter how implausible the location! When they roll over for a belly rub, Mako is right there looking for one too.
“Whenever Mako sees the boys on the counters or cabinets he hops up to join them,” Castiller said. “He really just wants to be around the cats all the time. If he is not in the room with one of us humans, he’s with the cats.”
As long as he doesn’t start bringing home dead birds, I’m sure the family doesn’t mind.

Bethany loves Mako and was happy to find such a perfect addition to her family. She probably doesn’t mind him acting like a cat, as long as he doesn’t start bringing home dead animals like cats are prone to do!
