In July 2016, a woman named Nicole Böhm found two tiny Tuxedo kittens wandering around a farm in Germany. The kittens were about four months and covered in mites. Nicole had been planning on adopting a cat, and so finding the two kittens felt like fate.
Nicole brought the kittens home and nursed them back to health. She named them Elli and Rosie.
Six months after Nicole adopted the cats, she noticed a white streak on Elli’s black fur.
Since the white streak was so small, Nicole didn’t worry about it much at first. But then, more and more of Elli’s fur began turning white. Concerned, Nicole brought Elli to the vet.
At the vet, Nicole learned Elli had vitiligo. Because of that, patches of her black fur were losing their dark pigment and turning white.
The vet explained that it’s rare for a cat to get vitiligo, but it doesn’t affect the cat’s health. Elli would be perfectly fine—she would just look a bit different!
Over the next few months, the majority of Elli’s fur turned white, and she was left with some beautiful, distinct black markings on her face. The cat is now three years old, and her appearance is always changing!
“Her changing still goes on every day, and I love her more and more,” Nicole told The Dodo.
Even though Elli’s appearance changes frequently, the cat’s personality is still the same.
“Her personality is the same as ever. It doesn’t matter to her,” Nicole said. “She is as cute and lovely and as playful as the first day.”
Nicole decided to start an Instagram page for Elli to share the cat’s unique look with the world. The page quickly received thousands of followers—everyone loves seeing Elli’s adorable transformation.
Nicole shares lots of photos of her day-to-day life with Elli. The cat is very playful, and she always enjoys batting around her toys. She’s also a big fan of exploring different nooks and crannies of her house.
Elli’s sister Rosie still looks like a typical Tuxedo cat. She doesn’t seem to notice that there’s anything different about her sister, and the two are still very close. They love cuddling together and playing with toys. Rosie is also a big fan of socks—she’ll guard them with her life!
