In January 2018, ESPN Reporter Dave McMenamin went to San Antonio, Texas to report on a basketball game between the San Antonio Spurs and the Cleveland Cavaliers. McMenamin thought it was going to be a simple, routine trip.

McMenamin could have never guessed that he would end up saving a life in San Antonio!

When McMenamin was driving to the AT&T Center for the game, he noticed an animal running across the road. He glanced over and saw it was a scruffy, scared dog. McMenamin knew he had to do something to help the poor animal, and so he pulled over to the side of the road and carefully approached the dog.

With some gentle coaxing, McMenamin was able to get the terrified dog into his car.

Once the dog was in the car and out of danger, McMenamin breathed a sigh of relief. But now, he had to figure out what to do with the dog. Since he traveled so much, he couldn’t adopt the dog himself, but he wanted to make sure that the pup was in a safe place before he left the city.

McMenamin posted on Twitter, asking if anyone in San Antonio knew where he should take the dog.

As McMenamin waited for a reply, he played with the dog and told him he was a good boy. He also gave him a name, Buddy.

A few people on Twitter told McMenamin about a local shelter, and so he brought Buddy over there. Before McMenamin took Buddy into the shelter, he gave him a few more pats on the head.

When they got inside the shelter, McMenamin learned that Buddy was microchipped, and he had an owner who was frantically looking for him.

Even though McMenamin knew Buddy was going back to a good home, it was still hard for him to say goodbye to the pup.

Thanks to McMenamin’s good deed, Buddy and his owner were reunited again. McMenamin did an amazing job looking after this sweet dog and making sure he was safe!
