These moments are always so fun and memorable.
Many sporting arenas have special traditions that have been kept alive for decades!
If you’ve ever heard of the “after-game handshake,” it’s essentially a reminder to be sportsmanlike because you will be looking the other team in the eye and shaking their hand after!
It reminds players that the other team is human and worthy of their respect.
It’s those sorts of traditions that have been in sports for so long many people don’t remember where they came from!
One special tradition has been happening at the Anheuser-Busch Stadium for over five decades!
We’ve all seen the massive Superbowl commercials that involve the Clydesdale horses, right?
They are a staple and so many commercials have been made around and about them! While they may seem new, they actually have been around for quite some time.
The first time they were ever seen in relation to the beer was after Prohibition in America!
The Budweiser Clydesdales were first introduced to the public on April 7, 1933, to celebrate the repeal of Prohibition. August A. Busch Jr. presented the horses — pulling a red, white and gold beer wagon — to his father, August A. Busch Sr., outside the brewery. The hitch carried the first case of post-Prohibition beer from the brewery down Pestalozzi Street in St. Louis. Recognizing the advertising and promotional potential of a horse-drawn beer wagon, Busch Sr. sent the team of horses on a tour of New England and the Mid-Atlantic states. – MLB
You can imagine that people were excited to see those horses!
They basically signified that people wouldn’t have to hide in order to drink anymore – quite an exciting prospect!
Part of that tradition lives on today at the Cardinals baseball games in St. Louis.
Opening day has always included the Clydesdale horses running around the field and completing a lap!
It’s been around for over five decades and is a moment that people love to see and cheer on.
It’s become such a tradition that people come just to see the big moment!

As they run out of the gate, they look beautiful! Their white-tufted feet and big bodies are quite a sight. It’s no wonder that people love to see the horse-train fly around!
There is even a Dalmatian sitting on top, checking things out.
What an incredible group of horses. It’s always so fun to watch them work.
