The animal kingdom is an extraordinary place, filled with creatures of all shapes and sizes.

From long-necked giraffes roaming the plains of Africa to otherworldly jellyfish deep in the ocean depths and stunning birds of prey soaring through the skies above, there are some incredible animals out there!

And the undisputed king of them all has to be the lion.

Renowned for their immense strength and beauty, lions are known as some of the toughest predators on the planet.

Most people definitely wouldn’t like to come face to face with a fully-grown lion, especially if it happens to be hungry at the time, but lion cubs are a different matter.

When they’re just babies, lions are still strong and potentially dangerous, but they’re also amazingly cute, and one little lion cub was recently captured on camera giving us her first ever ‘roar’.

This lovely little one lives at the Belgrade Zoo in Serbia.

She’s a rare white lion, and she’s utterly adorable, nestled on a little red bed in a small enclosure so the keepers can look after her until she gets big and strong.

Lions can’t really roar until they’re about two years old, but that fact didn’t stop this little one from trying!

The cute little cat was filmed walking all around her room, giving us her best attempt at a roar, even though it sounds a little more like a meow!

She seems quite curious, roaming around and investigating the space, ‘roaring’ again and again, testing out her young vocal chords for the very first time. She hasn’t quite nailed the classic lion roar just yet, but we’re sure she’ll get the hang of it in another year or two.

It’s highly likely that she was calling out for her mama or trying to let the keepers know that she was hungry. Either way, her roar is too cute for words, and some viewers have jokingly compared the noise to a car trying to start or the baa of a lamb.

Some people make the mistake of thinking that white lions are albinos, but technically, they’re not. Their coloring is caused by a rare genetic mutation, and they can range in color from totally white to blonde.

Interestingly, the color of white lions doesn’t really seem to have any impact on their chances of survival in the wild. Many white lions have been set free in their natural habitat and have survived just fine.

As well as out in the wild, they can also be found at zoos all over the world in places like Serbia, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States.

The white lions are a big attraction for the Belgrade Zoo, in particular. At the last count, the zoo had 12 of these lions and it was one of the first cities in the world to house them.

It’s an important breeding location for white and albino animals in general, home to white tigers and white buffalo too.

The adorable cub in this video was filmed in 2016, so she’s fully-grown now and can finally roar just like she always wanted! Enjoy her cuteness for yourself in the clip below.
