Raccoons are considered a kind of nuisance as they jump into dumpsters and make a giant mess. However, they are still animals in a complex ecosystem and it’s still our responsibility to look after these members of the wildlife.
This notion was challenged when a man saw a raccoon acting strange behind someone else’s car. Fortunately, his instinctive reaction saved the animal.
He saw the raccoon standing behind a covered car.
The man in the video looked like he was amused at first when he saw the raccoon seemingly trying to hide. As scavengers, raccoons scampering and hiding aren’t something new.
He took a closer look just to make sure that the raccoon was alright. What he saw next rattled him into a panic.
The raccoon wasn’t hiding.
The poor thing got tangled by the garter of the car cover. Somehow, maybe through the initial struggle and constant wrestling, the raccoon ended up strangling itself with the lining.
The man realized what was happening and quickly jumped into action. He first tried to check how the animal was trapped. The lining was wound around the animal’s neck so tightly that the situation was getting worse with each passing minute.
At first, the man tried spinning the raccoon in the opposite direction to unspool the entire thing.
The raccoon was already anxious and terrified so it was a bit difficult for the man to handle the animal. He then decided to get some gloves for extra protection.
Unfortunately, the cover was so tight and tangled that it was impossible to spot how the knot could unfurl. The raccoon, meanwhile, was slowly becoming weaker with each passing second.
The man raced inside the house to get his keys.
He tried scratching the bundled car cover to cut it but the material wasn’t breaking apart as fast as he wanted to.
Next, he got a knife but the tool wasn’t as sharp as well. The raccoon can literally die any minute as the fabric chokes it.
Fortunately, a neighbor saw what was happening.
The man explained the situation and told his neighbor that if they didn’t act quickly, the animal will succumb to the accident.
His neighbor pulled out a sharper knife and hacked through the fabric. However, the situation was far from over.
At that point, the raccoon was too exhausted to fight. It has no choice but to place its faith in two strangers that only wanted the best for him.
In the end, the raccoon was set free.
They still can’t figure out how the raccoon got trapped in the first place but they were glad they got it out safely.
People in the comment section lauded them for their actions. They commented that the two were prime examples of how humanity should act toward nature.
“I don’t know these men, but I love them for having the hearts they have and having such a willing spirit to help this precious creature in need.” said one.
