Did you know there are dozens of videos online of dogs walking horses?

That’s right – our civilization has deemed this a valid genre of entertainment and now people are training their dogs and horses to entertain the Internet.

Darla and Doc Holliday

On September 23, 2020, in Calhan, Colorado, Darla got her big chance to feel like a big deal.

She’s a tiny 8-week-old Australian Cattle Dog (also known as a Heeler). Her breed has the instinct to herd, but not necessarily to lead by a leash!

Meanwhile, Doc Holliday is a 4-year-old wild mustang. And if you’re wondering why someone would put them in a pen together, you’re not alone.

But, luckily, Doc was purchased from the Bureau of Land Management, which works to place excess animals – especially horses and burros – into private care through its adoption and sales programs.

He had been saved by a rescue after his owner had abused and starved him. But the BLM program helped save his life and his new owner nursed him back to mental and physical health.

In the caption provided by ViralHog from the original video, the owner said:

“He was saved by a rescue and then I adopted him and he has become the best horse to let his puppy who weighs almost nothing lead him around for a walk! I called him in to do some exercising with him and she loves playing with the horses so much that she just had to help!”

Because both animals are trained (and someone was keeping an eye on them) everything went well.

Little Darla picked up the lead with her tiny teeth and looked up at the horse to make sure everything was a go.

Doc, on the other hand, looked at the camera many times as if to say “are you serious about this?”

But off Darla went, trotting away with the led in her mouth, and the mustang followed dutifully, like a bit brother being forced to play nice with his little sister while mom records it all for posterity.

Doc did check in a few more times to check and make sure this game couldn’t maybe end a few minutes early though.

But even when he slowed down, he had already given Darla enough rope that she felt like she was in charge. And who’s gonna argue with all this sass?

Will the pair go viral again?

But perhaps people are all tuckered out on the whole puppy-leading-horse genre. Like we said earlier, Darla and Doc aren’t the only game in town. This miniature dachchund, for example, has been strutting it’s stuff on YouTube since 2017!

Still, we have to admit it’s all pretty cute.

And while we’re impressed by the confidence of these pups, we’re really impressed with the patience of these horses. Because no one’s moving if they don’t want to go anywhere!
